My sister's name is Alison, and I prefer that spelling. I'm a firm believer in traditional spellings- if you want to be creative, use an unusual name (although, in general, I'd rather be creative with the nursery decor than a child's name). IMO, the only thing being creative with the spelling of a traditional name accomplishes is dooming your child to a life of saying "Actually, it's spelled...."
