Like "ohnge"

Don't like it.

I'd pronounce it Anya.

Same with me.

[identity profile] erikalyn.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 09:42 am (UTC)(link)
Anya.

ahn-yeh. like antje minus the t.

[identity profile] th3-unicorn.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
AN-yeah. Or AH-nyah.

[identity profile] waitingonsunday.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
My brain read it as "Angie," originally, then corrected itself to say something closer to "ON-yuh." If the former is correct, not a big fan. If the latter, it's pretty and exotic, but I think it would confuse a lot of people who speak English.

Angie?

[identity profile] piamon.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
An-yuh

[identity profile] sandtree.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Anya, basically.

[identity profile] ollivander.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahn-jay

[identity profile] whenimdead.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
First thought was "Eww, is that Angie?"
Then "Maybe it's an-hey"

[identity profile] alexandria-skye.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
angie (ann-gee), but i can also see it as anya (ahn-yah).

[identity profile] moobiewons.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Either Anya or Anye (like Kanye but without the K).
I think it's one of those names that looks pretty spelled out but would either sound awful or result in a ton of mispronounciations.

[identity profile] moldycelery.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahn-yeh. I can't really explain the -e sound, kind of like a clipped -ah.

[identity profile] ifancylust.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
probably like angie. i don't know if that's correct though.

[identity profile] krosp.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Wow I'm surprised at all the Angie responses. To me it was obviously Anya. I suppose it depends where the name comes from. If it was a language like German or Dutch or something similar, I think it would definitely be Anya. But other languages would pronounce it differently I guess.

It comes from being exposed to so many kids whose parents tried to creative-up their otherwise normal names. =)

[identity profile] heure-actuelle.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
ahn-ya

[identity profile] soulsplinter8.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
The first thing my brain thought was Anya.
