[identity profile] thorabrighid.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
This couple in my church just had a baby. They named her Gracie Imelda. I'm not sure about the spelling, but that's what I was told the middle name was. Now, Gracie is really cute, not something I'd name my kid, but cute. But Imelda? The kids just destined to have so many shoe jokes thrown at her.

So I've really started taking a liking to the name Louisa lately. And I lovelovelove Elinor, so what do y'all think about Elinor Louisa?

What does Imelda have to do with shoes?

Elinor is a complete atrocity. I'm sorry.
And Gracie is cute on a 2 year old. Not so cute on a 32 year old.

My thoughts exactly. That's why if you like the name, name her "Grace" and use "Gracie" as a nickname.

I'm sorry, but I don't like either Elinor or Louisa.

buh really?
I's still stick with the current day spelling, I mean it's the kid that has to be the one who constantly spells her name for all.

My name is Grace, but I've always gone strictly by Gracie. I'm just not a Grace at all. I'm only 16, but I think that Gracie is the only name that will ever really suit me. (Even when I'm 32.) =)

Elinor Louisa sounds quite lovely, by the way.

Maybe Imelda was a family name they wanted to use? I agree though, it is awful.

I love Eleanor but spelled that way, with the ea, but I'm not a Louisa fan at all.

Who knows - Imelda may be a family name. It's just a middle name, no one has to know about it. My cousin gave her son the middle name Albert because it was her dead grandfather's name, not because it was a name she loved.

Although I personally like Elinor and Louisa, I'm sure many people would think they were as un-pretty as you think Imelda is.

Meh, by the time she grows up nobody will remember Imelda Marcos. It's the diminutive Gracie I have a problem with.

I think Gracie is cute and I have no problem with it - she can always insist on people calling her Grace as her 'preferred name' at work and school or whatever. And there is no commonly known connection to Imelda shoes where I come from so I don't see that as a problem, though Imelda is an odd name.

I like Elinor spelled that way. I like it better than Eleanor...I think because that way makes me think of two things. 1.) Eleanor Roosevelt, which isn't bad at all
3.) the car in "Gone in 60 Seconds", which isn't bad at all.

"Elinor" makes me think of "Elsinor" which is Hamlet's home. I love literary names, even if it wasn't a person.

I've seen Elinor spelled that way before on kids.

Don't like Gracie. Sounds like the family chocolate lab.

My mom wanted to name their chocolate lab Gracie, but I made her not because I really love the name "Grace."

And now my fiance says it is a dumb name anyway.
