I like your names for Finn. Why not name the kid one of those and use Finn and a nickname? Then it's not all Huckleberryesque.

I think any child would hate being named Finbar or Finnegan. Finley is sorta decent but sounds like a last name.

My brother has survived 16 years so far without James being made into any nickname.. so there is hope. It's so short you don't need to give it a nickname anyway

Wow I can't believe an 11 yr old has other Aidan's in their class. I thought it just became popular b/c of Sex and the City. lol.

I'm sorry that trendy cutesy 14-17 year olds ruined a name that runs in your family.

BOYS:

McCabe-Sounds too much like a last name, so no.
Griffin-I love this, but no guts to use it. Makes me think of Gryffindor.
Graham-No, because I think of the dad on "My So Called Life" and I have never liked how it is spelled. Gra-HAM but it's supposed to be pronounced Gram. Errrrr.
Caleb-Like it a lot, but don't love it. Too common. I'm a sucker for "Cale" though.
George-I cannot see a tiny sweet baby named George.
Miller-Love it! Know a little boy named this!
James-Too common, too boring for me.
Thomas-Meh, it's okay.
Tucker-Makes me think of "Old Man Tucker" and waaaaaaay too many limericks rhyme with this one.
Jack-Love it.
Grayer-I like Grayson better.
Patrick-Like it, but like Thomas, will never use it.
Aidan-No no nonooooo too common.
Finn-Makes me think of Huck. Better as a pet name.
Tanner-I used to like it. What changed it is like "Grayer". No, make it tanner. No, make it grayer. No, make it blacker. It needs to be greener! It's too....colorish.
Sawyer-Good as a middle name. I respect the person who uses this as a first name, but my family is a bunch of rednecks and they'd say "Soyer."

GIRLS:

Emily-Too common too common too common. One day there will be nursing homes filled with Emilys and Caitlins and Emmas and Mackenzies.
Elizabeth-Classic and beautiful.
Caroline-It is beautiful, but not for me.
Margaret-I respect the person who uses this. I like it 'cause it's not so common, but I don'tl ike it because I can't picture a tiny baby named Margaret.
Katherine-Classic, but not for me.
Tierney-No. Reminds me of tyranny.
Charlotte-Beautiful!
Schuyler (sky-ler)-Tooooooo common and I know too many boys named Skylar.
Addison (yes i know it means Son of Adam...i dont like it for a boy)-I like Addie, but not Addison.
Callaway-Sounds like a family name. It's okay as a middle name, but not a first name. A boy, okay.
Chapel-This seems beautiful but I don't know how well it would go over...I can respect someone who uses it.
Peyton-NO no nononoooo because I know a girl Peyton. So it's name association here. I also know more boy Peytons....like Skylar.
Avery-I like it Averie better.
Lilly-I like Lily better, but this name is on my top ten list.
Nell-Makes me think of the movie. Or Nail.
Bryn-Love it!!
Ella-Mmmmm....pretty but not for me. It's a name that ages well.
Molly-That's my kitty! I think it's cute for a little girl and a soccer mom, but not in between.
Kellen-This is interesting. I actually like it.
Chapin-I think people would flub up the pronunciation. Chay-pin or Shay-pin or Sha-pin or Chappin.
Elliot-Not for a girl.
Grace-Gorgeous, but sadly overused.
Sailor-Nope nope nope unless you had a Navy spouse.
Bronwyn-Nice. I respect those who use this.
Sutton-Not for a girl. I think it's a nice boys' name.
Morgan-it's okay. Totally not for me, but it's not overused and it's not weird.

Whenever I think of Schuyler, I think of the fort in upstate New York...in Rome, I think. It was later changed to Fort Stanwix. No one would ever know that or think that but me...but for some reason I always think of that piece of military history. I don't think that with Skylar.

BOYS:

McCabe-Not a big fan.

Caleb-One of my favorites!

I'm going to answer this before reading other people's comments so it doesn't bias my first impressions... sorry if I repeat anything other people say.

BOYS:

McCabe - I wouldn't even like it as a last name.
Griffin - So many things come to mind, none of them people. Griffith university, Gryffindor (from harry potter) and a TV character called Griff...
Graham - I haven't heard any young boys with this name. It's alright but I don't like it personally and is a bit ambiguous cos it is also a last name.
Caleb - I associate this strongly with a particular person I know too much to say anything else
George - This name has always made me think of sausages. I have no idea why. It also makes me think of a podgy grumpy old man, George Costanza from seinfeld, and "georgey porgey pudding and pie kissed the girls and made them cry"
Miller - Another last name, with a more obvious meaning than some, and I don't see the point in giving an occupation name to an infant.
James - I really love this name, and it's also my brother's name
Thomas - I like this, although the nickname Tom is annoying... Thomas makes a good middle name sometimes
Tucker - haha yuck. Tucker is slang for food, here. If a boy was named this I would just think of people eating him.
Jack - Alright...becoming too popular.
Grayer - I don't like this.
Patrick - strong Irish connotations, but a decent name
Aidan - I used to think nothing of this except that it was a kind of cute, Irish sort of name, and then everyone on this forum is claiming it to be really popular and overused and now I think of it as this taboo name even though I actually haven't met any little Aidan's yet.
Finn - I don't like it. Thinking of a shark.
Tanner - I suppose it's ok but the meaning is again an occupation
Sawyer - I don't know much about this name, but I don't like the sound of it because it reminds me of the word sewerage

GIRLS:

Emily - It is pretty and classic, but I somehow don't like it much
Elizabeth - Good, although it's rare to meet one who goes by her full name
Caroline - I really like this name (if it's pronounced caro-LINE not caro-LIN)
Margaret - means "pearl" which is nice... it seems a bit outdated though
Katherine - I like this too
Tierney - It looks nice but it's a bit hard to pronounce
Charlotte - I used to like this but don't anymore
Schuyler (sky-ler) - not my style
Addison - I don't have much opinion on this name
Callaway - I don't think it suits a girl
Chapel - a common noun. No different to me than any other word.
Peyton - it sounds like a word, even though it probably isn't.
Avery - sounds too much like aviary, where birds live
Lilly - I like it spelled Lily better, which is my grandmother's name, so I like it for that reason
Nell - I think of Macbeth "Hear it not, Duncan, for it is a knell, which sentence thee to heaven or to hell"
Bryn - sounds made up
Ella - Nice, becoming popular though.
Molly - It reminds me of fluffy pink things, and also Molly Meldrum, who is a man
Kellen - sounds like 'killing' too much
Chapin - looks like Chopin, can't imagine a nice way to pronounce it
Elliot - for a girl still??
Grace - Beautiful meaning and nice sound, although I just met a really mean bossy one, so the name was a bit ironic
Sailor - as you probably guess, I don't see the point in attaching an occupation name to a person
Bronwyn - I like this name, very underused
Sutton - I don't like it
Morgan - Alright, neutral

Date: 2006-02-20 09:33 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] smasharash.livejournal.com
McCabe - sounds like a surname
Griffin - it's ok i guess, but I wouldn't use it
Graham - bit of an old man name
Caleb - really quite american, but cute
George - a bit of an old man name, ok as a middle name, or a name for a pet!
Miller - doesn't sound like a name to me
James - I have always likes, but it's just so popular! I also like Jamie and Jem as nicknames
Thomas - Classic but boring. I new so many Tom's and Thomas' when I was growing up
Tucker - I wouldn't really consider it a first name, vety american
Jack - I have always liked, but unfourtunately it is so popular!
Grayer - I like (quite lot) but would not use
Patrick - I like, but I HATE Pat as a nickname
Aidan - Really cute
Finn - I like a lot
Tanner - I wouln't consider it a name, sounds like someone whos uses sunbeds frequently!
Sawyer - Nice but I would never use

Emily - I like but could never use as it is far too popular!
Elizabeth - I don't like. But I love Eliza, and Elsa
Caroline - I cannot imagine it on anyone under the age of about 40
Margaret - Old lady name
Katherine - Boring. Too many of them. But I love Kate!
Tierney - nope, too american
Charlotte - again, boring and over used. Seems a bit old fashioned too.
Schuyler (sky-ler) - I like, but not the spelling. The spelling is unecessary.
Addison (yes i know it means Son of Adam...i dont like it for a boy) - meh

My thoughts:
McCabe - last name
Griffin - last name
Graham - possibly a last name, but an ok name
Caleb - nice name
George - various kings of England, but not a bad name
Miller - last name
James - I love this name ^^
Thomas - my dad's name, very nice ;D
Tucker - makes me think of Tucker Carlson, lol, and he's kind of an ass
Jack - I like this better as a nickname
Grayer - uh, an adjective? not really a fan of this
Patrick - I like this name too, nice and Irish ;D
Aidan - like Aidan Quinn. love it
Finn - lol, my brother's sort of nickname. But I don't know about it as a first name
Tanner - last name
Sawyer - like Tom Sawyer? Heh, I think of this as a last name too

Emily - good name, seems pretty popular
Elizabeth - my middle name, and I love Elizabeth
Caroline - I like this
Margaret - another nice, traditional name (I think of traditional as a good think, btw)
Katherine - I love Katherine too, especially spelled this way
Tierney - I think this is more a boys name
Charlotte - another good name
Schuyler - the only person I have ever seen with this name was a guy, and I thought it was odd then. I don't like it for girls or boys
Addison - eh, I'm not a huge fan, for either gender
Callaway - heh, I think they make golf equipment? No, don't like this
Chapel - where one goes to church services. Definitely not as a name
Peyton - another ok boys name
Avery - boys name
Lilly - I like Lilly
Nell - It's a nice name, but I'm not a huge fan
Bryn - makes me think of Bryn Mawr. Not a big fan of it as a name
Ella - very nice
Molly - I like Molly too
Kellen - I don't think I've seen this before. Eh, it's ok
Chapin - I think I saw a singer with this as a last name once. Not a great first name, and definitely not for a girl
Elliot - boys name
Grace - I love Grace
Sailor - uh, like the person who sails around on a ship? I don't think I like that for a name
Bronwyn - No, not really a fan
Sutton - makes me think of Sutton Hoo (where I'm going next weekend!) so no, not a great name
Morgan - I know a couple girls named Morgan, and while I don't dislike it, I think the name is a bit too trendy
