How does someone convince their significant other of a name? My husband isn't interested in looking at name for our baby girl but he continues to shoot down all the names I've suggested. The only name he likes is 'Elizabeth'. While, it's a nice name I don't want it as a first name because my mom is determined to call the child 'lizzy' if we do. I absolutely love the name Charlotte and I've gotten him to say it's 'okay'.

What do you think of Charlotte Elizabeth? I've only gotten positive replies, except the baby's name is going to be long because our last name has eight letters.

I don't know if it's possible to "convince" someone of a name. At least it isn't with my husband. You just have to keep on looking until you find a name you both love...or can deal with.

I like the name, it's very pretty. As for the Elizabeth/Izzy thing...if you decide to go with Elizabeth make sure your mother knows, in no uncertain terms, that her name is ELIZABETH, NOT IZZY. And if you here your mother call her Izzy, remind mom "Her name is Elizabeth."

This isn't personal against you, it's about a lot of folks here, but I don't get why people choose not to have a name because they're worried about nicknames. I have a family member named David, and his mother made sure everyone KNEW that it was David. Not Dave. And nobody has ever called him Dave. You just have to reinforce the name choice. If they get older and choose to have a nickname, then that's up to them.

Tell your husand that you will consider his suggestions, but that you get final say because you'll be the one going through the pain of labor and delivery.

I like that a lot.

My advice would be to say, "This is the name I like. Either suggest some and discuss this with me, or that's the name." If you really want to have his input (more than saying "okay" about the name you like), pick something he really hates and say, "This is it unless you discuss it."

tell him youre going to pick any name you want and he will have zero input if he doesnt give any input other than telling you he dislikes everything you mention.

that said, i think charlotte elizabeth is fine. boring to me, but fine.
