my name list
Jun. 15th, 2008 09:12 pm So I'm prob still a few years away from kids but I just figured I'd post my list of favorite names/combos and see if anyone had any suggestions bout them :)
I'm kinda picky for girls names, theres few I love, and while i have a sort of abundance of family boys names Id use for mn's, 1st names are harder to come by that i like as well so my list isnt large.
Girls: #1 is the one im set on using. The other two are just b/c i like them a lot and figure i should have more than just one name that i like haha..
1. Tessa Carmella Renee - NN- Tess, This is prob the only girl name that I would want 2 middle names for. Carmella for my mom and grandma who passed 2 yrs ago, and Renee because I love it with Tessa.
2. Isabella Michelle- michelle is my sisters name
Audrey Heather - just kinda like the combo but I'm not completely in love with it.
Boys:
James Robert- always loved James. Robert is my dads middle name, though its not one that HAS to stay there. just a thought
or
James Gary - Garys my dad's first name
Jude Aaron- looove jude and have always liked aaron. no particular reason for either of them though.
Jace Neil- Neil after my pop-pop
Those are combos I really love. As for other names, I like/kinda like:
Lucy - just think its really cute
Grace-cute and grandma's name
Annalise- prettyname just like the sound of it
Tegan- prn Tea-gen
Lena- prob woudlnt use cuz my cousins daughter is this
Layla- like the clapton song! i just like it
Steven- also my bf's name, well sorta, his birth certificate says Steve
Kyle
Brenden
Anthony
Zachery or Zackery-i dont know if this is common, with the k i mean. but I knew someone with it as Zack and it didnt seem abnormal to me.
David
Paul
On another note, I was on another livejournal community that posts wedding pictures and from there a found the gallery off a photographers website. Listed were names of the couples she had photographed with album covers of the couples and they were all pretty common and normal seeming names till I got to one gallery of Ryan and his white, blonde female wife named: "Phuket" ...ive never heard this before and it struck me as VERY awkward and odd.

Date: 2008-06-16 02:11 am (UTC)Zachary is usually spelt like that, but the nickname is usually still Zack (with a "k"). If you do go for the "k" spelling, I'd urge you to use an "a", not an "e"-- they look weird together and make me pronounce it all stilted.
Phuket is a Thai province. She might be Thai and not "look it", or maybe it's one of those conception place names.

Date: 2008-06-16 02:17 am (UTC)I have thought about the Tessa Renee thing. I'm kinda torn. Renee was one of the few names I actually loved with Tessa but Carmella is really important to me so I think Renee will take the backseat for now. Who knows, I might change my mind when i actually have children though! :)
As for Zachary/Zackary, its really just a "i sorta like it and if i had no other choice might use it :)
After you said the Thai thing I realised i kinda knew that! lol pretty Weird though

Date: 2008-06-16 02:27 am (UTC)love Lena too, my husbands cousin is named this and its adorable.
i also love Tegan.

Date: 2008-06-16 02:31 am (UTC)I think lena is an adorable name and my cousins baby fits it soooo well. i love her
Tegan is also one i love but might not actually use. i think its a great name though for a girl and i think a few think its fits a boy better instead but i dont agree with that.

Date: 2008-06-16 02:32 am (UTC)I love Audrey; Heather is okay but NMS.
James Robert is a great name. I like this better than Gary, although James Gary isn't awful, either. Gary is just blah and Robert gets the same meaning with a better name.
Jace is way too trendy/nickname-y. If you want to use Jace, I'd suggest using Jason as a full name and using Jace as a nickname. It just doesn't work as a given name and it sounds like someone is constantly being cut off while saying Jason. I don't like either name anyway, though. I like Neil.
I love Lucy, Annalise, Lena, and Laila/Leila spelled this way - I don't like Leyla. Grace is overused and Tegan is awful compared to your other names. You have some really gorgeous ones, but Tegan is awful. Go with the others.
For boys, I like Brendan (spelled this way), Anthony, Zachary (Zack is a common spelling of the nickname, but Zackary/Zackery looks really trendy/like you're trying to change the spelling to look cooler), David, and Paul. Kyle and Steven just aren't my style and both seem a bit dated.
For the most part, I really like your style. The only ones I really dislike are Jace and Tegan. Even Isabella, despite its popularity, is a decent name.

Date: 2008-06-16 02:44 am (UTC)I kinda agree with the James robert sounding better, but at the same time im torn b/c its not as much a tribute to my dad as gary would be because robert isnt something he really recognizes as part of his name i think. however! if i marry and have kids with the boy im with now, his dad is named Robert so it could work that way haha.
I thought of the Jace-Jason thing but i think i would end up calling him Jace most of the time anyway and everyone always says if youre going to just call a kid something why name them another name.
as for Zackery, thats an ex's name and thats how its spelled, he's 20 and no ones ever said anything bout the spelling seeming like they were trying to make it cooler :)
Jace and Tegan are kinda guilty pleasure ones. though, for some reason steven and kyle dont seem dated to me. They just seem like names. i get what you mean, but for me its diff. i guess. :) thanks for the comments!

Date: 2008-06-16 03:27 am (UTC)Because Jace doesn't look like a real name on a job resume. I think when people say "If you're going to call him ____, why not name him that?" they mean why call a kid by his middle name if that's what you're going to call him? Or why name your kid Luke if you're going to call him Jack? Jace doesn't pass the business card test at all; Jason does. Plus, Jace just seems so incomplete. And very very very trendy. And not in an Isabella kind of way. More in an Aiden kind of way.
As for the spelling of Zackery, 20 years ago it wouldn't have seemed like they were trying to make it look cooler, but that's exactly the trend these days -- change the spelling to make it look different. While nobody would have thought that 20 years ago, they definitely would right now.
If Jace and Tegan are "guilty pleasures," then you probably understand what I mean about why they wouldn't be good choices. I like a lot of names that work very poorly in practice, too, but please please please relegate them to middle name status or use them on pets. They just seem so tacky on human beings and you have some GORGEOUS names on your list that are so much nicer.

Date: 2008-06-16 03:41 am (UTC)I agree a bit more with Jace with what you said, however I did say it was more of a guilty pleasure thing. and should have beeen put in the list i made after my top names. Its definitely not high on my list hence why its not the 1st or 2nd name. my 3rd names on my lists were/are ones that i just kinda added in b/c they were combos i liked a bit.
as for Zackery, i also get what youre saying then. and its got a more of a "im not using that name" chance but i like it kind of thing going on which is why it was on the list of names i just like. I don't think Zackery is as bad as a lot of the names the people are changing the spellings for though so it doesnt seem to fit that trend to me.

Okay, this is off-topic but your profile says you go to FDU? That's CRAZY! I just finished my freshman year there (although I'm not going back).

Date: 2008-06-16 03:13 am (UTC)and yes I do go to FDU, madison campus. I'm a junior next year and the only reason i could afford to go is a bunch of scholarship :P lol. how come youre not staying?

Date: 2008-06-16 03:18 am (UTC)My uncle's a professor there, which is how I heard of it. But... I'm from Georgia and had very few friends (vs. a LOT at home) and I was just too homesick and miserable there to be wasting so much of my parents' money (though I was on the Colonel Dickinson Scholarship).

Date: 2008-06-16 03:20 am (UTC)I have that scholarship as well and a few grants. I'm in the same boat with the friends thing. i cant seem to make any b/c I commute and have to work as well so im not on campus enough. I did meet my bf there though :)

Date: 2008-06-16 04:19 am (UTC)Isabella Michelle - i like isabella and i think it's nice to honor your sister. but again, the double "elle" makes the combo sound weird.
Audrey Heather - heather is so 80's to me, while audrey is more classic and old-fashioned. i don't like the combo, but i like audrey as a name itself.
James Robert- i love james, but not any of the nicknames for it (jim, jimmy, jamie)
James Gary - again, i love james, but i've never liked gary.
Jude Aaron - i love jude too. :] i'm pretty neutral on aaron.
Jace Neil- neil is okay. jace sounds so new millennium and made up to me. =/
Lucy - i like lucia, lucinda, luca, and lucille more than lucy.
Grace -pretty, but has become a filler middle name unfortunately.
Annalise - i knew a terrible girl in pre-school name annalise, but i think she spelled it annelise? anyway, i just can't like it because of her. haha.
Tegan - i like it.
Lena - i've grown to love this name. pronounced LEE-na, right?
Layla - very pretty and the song is great. :]
Steven - not too wild about it.
Kyle - it's okay.
Brenden - i like it spelled brendan better. i like brandon too.
Anthony - never liked it, plus i think tony as a nickname is terrible. =/
Zachery or Zackery - i like zachary (spelled that way. i've never seen zachery) and i like the nickname zack, but i feel like if i named a kid zachary and wanted to give him a nickname, i'd have to spell is zach, rather than zack..and i don't like the way zach looks. anyway, i like it, but wouldn't use it.
David - ex-boyfriend. no thanks. :P
Paul - i like it. simple and classic.

Date: 2008-06-16 04:34 am (UTC)I don't mine the double elle sound but that name isnt set in stone like the first one is so it could change.
I def agree with the nicknames for James though, i dont like them either, but my sister has a friend named james and he doesnt go by any of those names so it could work out if i dont ever call him anything else :)
I dont know if ill ever use lucy but of the names you suggested, ive never really been fond of any of them, their just not really my style.
And yeah, lena is prn: Lee-na :) i think its such an adorable name.
I prefer brenden over brandon in terms of how you say it. i knowsomeone who spells it brenden so thats why i typed it that way but im not opposed to brendan.
also i like the name david but prob wouldnt use it as im in the same boat as you in that i have TWO ex's named david haha.

Date: 2008-06-16 04:55 pm (UTC)Being a Tessa and meeting another Tessa is always an extraordinary event, or has been in my experience. It's not like being a Katie and meeting another Katie or Katy or Caity.
I would absolutely, positively vote for giving a potential daughter the full Tessa. I couldn't have asked for a better name, not out of the millions and millions of names in the world.
