Jun. 4th, 2008 12:24 pmGood Afternoon Everyone!
My lovely husband and I just got the exciting news we will be expecting in January...time to start seriously considering names...
Boys:
Cohen Nash
Hudson
Reynolds
Maddox
Girls:
Matilda Ryan
Marley Ryan
Madeline
Evie
I'm struggling with middle names, if you can't tell. I'm debating using Olive, after Abigail Breslin's character in 'Little Miss Sunshine' as a middle name for Evie...Evie Olive. Not too sure how it sounds...
Suggestions? Comments? Hate mail?

Date: 2008-06-04 07:31 pm (UTC)Cohen Nash - Like the first HATE the middle
Hudson - Cute
Reynolds - Reminds me of Ryan and I LOVE him but don't think it works for a first name
Maddox - It's my sons middle names so it's love
Girls:
Matilda Ryan - Dislike the first, love the second
Marley Ryan - Love both!
Madeline - It's okay
Evie - It's okay but it's to nick name sounding and can't picture it on an adult.
Evie Olive - TERRIBLE. Sounds awful together.

Date: 2008-06-04 08:38 pm (UTC)I'm beginning to notice how many people don't like Matilda - but I'm totally amped that people agree with Marley - It's my number one choice, but my husband thinks people won't like it.

Date: 2008-06-04 07:50 pm (UTC)I also really like Marley and Matilda.
I prefer Madeleine to Madeline...but that's just personal preference.
As for Evie...how about a longer name with Evie as a nickname? Some suggestions:
Evalyn/Eveline
Evangeline
Evana
Evanthe
Evangelia
Evania
Geneva
Genevieve
Also, I loved Little Miss Sunshine, but the name Olive always reminds me of, well, olives.

Date: 2008-06-04 08:41 pm (UTC)I love Evalyn - my husband has already turned it down a couple of times - so we'll have to see if I can sneak it in again.

My favorites are Hudson, Maddox and Marley. =)

Date: 2008-06-04 09:06 pm (UTC)I like Hudson and Maddox. I really dislike Marley for a girl, especially with a name as masculine as Ryan.

Date: 2008-06-04 10:41 pm (UTC)You're the first person to like Matilda :) I've loved it ever since the Matilda movie with Danny DeVito...starring that little girl who hasn't done anything since she wasn't a little girl anymore.
I think Madeline may be exed - even though I swear it's not due to anything in the trend universe - it's actually from one of my favoite books growing up - the Madeline books.

Date: 2008-06-04 11:27 pm (UTC)We actually, sadly, got the idea from the TV teen soap drama 'The OC' - My husband loved Adam Brody's character Seth Cohen, and since everyone called him 'Cohen' on the show - we got attached.
As far as Nash goes - I explained it in a comment up above...we're both big Phoenix Suns fans, and loved the idea of naming our son/daughter (if we could get away with the latter) after a member of the team. We both really like Steve Nash, and thought that the name Cohen Nash flowed really nicely.

Date: 2008-06-05 01:24 am (UTC)I like both Matilda and Marley a lot, and Ryan is a name I balked at at first, but I actually don't mind it as a middle name, because it can just look like the mother's maiden name or something, which I think is cute. But Madeline is way too popular these days. I'm not fond of Evie (I do like Eve, though). Evie and Olive individually would be okay, but together it becomes too old-fashioned for my tastes.

Date: 2008-06-05 01:31 am (UTC)Evie Olive sounds awful. And Olive is one of my favourite names, so it's not that I don't like it, but they just sound so bad together.

Date: 2008-06-05 01:38 am (UTC)There are so many names that can be offensive for people, such as someone naming their child after a saint, or naming them Jesus, or Nevaeh is offensive to some people. You shouldnt take that to seriously.
For all your other names, I love them all except Evie, maybe you could find something that that name could be the nn for :]

Date: 2008-06-05 03:40 pm (UTC)It can join the Evie/Ovie combo, since I've gone ahead and taken that first and middle name duo off.
Thank you SO much for the congrats!

Date: 2008-06-05 03:36 pm (UTC)I was on the fence with Ryan, and I'm pretty sure I won't pair it with Marley anymore - but I do really like it with Matilda. I think they balance each other out, actually.
I don't like the name Nash in and of itself (I once met someone with that first name...), but I actually think it flows really nicely with Cohen, and it's after Steve Nash from the Phoenix Suns.
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment!

Date: 2008-06-05 03:27 am (UTC)Cohen Nash -- Sounds last-name-y, and "Nash" brings to mind redneck connotations for me (and I live in the south).
Hudson -- Ditto with the redneck.
Reynolds -- Last-name-y.
Maddox -- Favorite of your boys' list, but I do think of Angie Jolie. =/
Girls:
Matilda Ryan -- I love Matilda, and this combination works well.
Marley Ryan -- "Marley" is too masculine with "Ryan." I'd go with either Matilda or Madeline if you want to use Ryan as a middle name, but I do like Marley with a more feminine middle name.
Madeline -- Love "Mad-ah-line" but not crazy about "Mad-uh-lyn."
Evie -- Love as a nickname for Evelyn (not Evalyn, this looks misspelled).
I like Olive as a nickname for Olivia. I'd try to give her something else to go by in case she grows up and decides that Olive isn't cute anymore. Good luck!

Date: 2008-06-05 03:32 pm (UTC)I think I'm totally over Maddox - a lot of people have voiced EXACTLY what I was afraid of - that it would be too Angelina Jolie-esque.
We had originally paired Marley with Grace - my great-grandmother's name, but I thought it sounded too girly with Marley. And I couldn't agree with you more about the Ah-line vs. Uh-lyn.
Thanks so much for your comment :) Awesome suggestions.

Date: 2008-06-05 03:22 pm (UTC)As far as Evie Olive/Marley Olive - I actually REALLY like Marely Olive - way cute, and I thank you a bunch for that suggestion - but Evie Olive is MOST DEFINITELY off the list :)
