I've been lurking on this comm for forever lol.
But I finally decided to post something.
what are your opinions on these names.
Sian (pronounced Sharn) thats my name.
Bethan (pronounced Beth-anne) my 13 yr old sister
Riona (rhymes with Fiona) my 11 yr old sister.
EDIT: I am British, Sian & Bethan are both Welsh names and Riona is (i think) Irish
Also one of my mums hairdressers relatives has a little girl called:
Heaven-Leigh (pronounced Heavenly)
WTF????

Date: 2008-06-03 07:28 pm (UTC)That's what I get for being an American living in the UK... hypersensitivity to these issues. I remember once somebody in this community asked how to pronounce a name. It might have been Yanni or something like that.
A couple of Brits responded with "Yarni", which for them is correct, but to Americans isn't, because British R equals American H — and I swear dozens of Americans jumped on them all like "WTF?! YARNI? Are you on crack?" type of things.
And so yes. Thought I'd nip that one in the bud.
