Arsen is a name. There's nothing that says I can't change the E to an O. Thank you and goodnight.

its just that changing the the spelling also changes the meaning...but if you like the name arson, go for it...your kid, your choice right?

Arsen may be a name, but do you really want to name your kid something that has "arse" as the very first syllable?

No-one's saying you CAN'T do it. They're just saying it's a ridiculous and terrible name. If you want to do something like that, it's your choice. Nobody cares.

But don't get all defensive if people tell you what they think of it. If you can't handle honest opinions, don't post. Thank you and good night :/

P.S. As for your reasoning: "My son's name is Arson, but it doesn't mean setting fire to things - it's the Greek name Arsen, meaning strong, just spelled differently" ... well, that's convoluted and pretty lame.

Braxton is a real name, too. Doesn't mean it doesn't have a bad association.

Go ahead and name your kid Arson. It's between you and your child. If your child comes to you at some later point and asks you why they were named after a terrible crime, it'll be up to you to think of an answer. You will also have to be ready with an explanation every time another person says "What's your son's name?" and you say "Arson" and they say "As in setting fire to something?", which I guarantee will be the response. I imagine at some point you will get pretty sick of saying, "Yes, Arson, like SETTING THINGS ON FIRE."

This is just reality. You give someone a name, you're going to have to live other people's reactions to it. It will be said out loud a thousand times, at the doctor's office, during roll call, at the playground. If that name is Arson, or Lucifer, or Manson, or Hitler, be prepared to answer a few questions.

Seriously, apart from the blaring ARSE in the front of that name, and the fact that it will still be interpreted as Arson, there is the more glaring problem that babynamesworld.com is super-duper inaccurate when it comes to meanings. Try behindthename.com, which is far more reliable. They list Arsen as the Armenian derivative of Arsenios, which does indeed happen to be Greek, though it means "virile." Not that naming a kid Arson would look like you were compensating for anything in the first place.

Be it a name or not, when people hear it they are going to think starting a fire. Use it if you want, and if you don't care what others will think or what they will call your child to poke fun at school. Kids can be cruel.

Omg you are stupid. I'm deleting you now, but I can't refrain from telling you I really hope you don't procreate. Arson spelled any kind of way is STUPID. Please don't breed. KTHNXBYE.

Moron. DO NOT try to fuel drama in my f-ing community. It pisses me off.

Some country, somewhere, "Turde" could be a name meaning "beauitiful one" but that doesn't mean I'd chose it. Even if it's a considered a name, people would always associate this with fires. Just because a name sounds pretty to you, doesn't give good reason to give it to your child. :) I'm not trying to take sides or anything, just my opinion.
