SSA Popular Baby Names

Jacob is number one for boys, Emily is number one for girls. Respectable, traditional names, yay. Naveah has been pushed to number 31 from #43 (*cringe*), Aidan has fallen ten spaces (but Aiden has risen five),  Madison has fallen two spaces (still in top ten), and Jayden has gone from number 49 to 18 (not surprising, but no less unfortunate).

i love ethan and andrew but none of the other boys names, and for girls i really like emily, emma, abigail, and elisabeth.

that being said, i even worked in a daycare for a year and i know tons of people with kids AND i have very young siblings, i've never met a little girl named olivia.

Jacob and Emily were also number 1 in 1991, the year my sister was born. Her name is Emily and her best friend in elementary school was Jacob. My mom alsway thought that was so funny that they were both the top names and I was like "Well if they're the most popular names there's a greater chance that there will be Jacobs and Emilys to be friends with each other right?"

Oh, I take that back, it was 1999, one of the years the two of them had class together.

I like Isabel but not Isabella, Eva but not Ava, Sophie but not Sophia.

I like Jake but not Jacob.

I can't say I'm really into the top 10 for either sex. The boys' name sound particularly biblical.

I have never met an Elizabeth with an s instead of a z. The most famous Elizabeth, who was queen, had a z. Elizabeth Bennett from Jane Austen had a z. Where does the s come from?

I am shocked Jack is not on there. Every other kid I meet is named Jack...

Anthony seems out of place to me. I never notice this name on anyone's top name lists, I never run into little kids by that name, I never hear of anyone calling their kid that, and that's something I can't say about any of the other names out of these twenty. The only reason I think I'm even noticing it is because that's what my boyfriend wants to name our firstborn son (supposing we have any, way off in the future), so now when I see it anywhere, my ears kind of perk up.

i've known a few with the s, but definitely more with a z. lol not that i'd name a kid after her or that she's the first person i've seen it on, but elisabeth hasslebeck (sp) spells her name with the s. just an example.

the primary reason i prefer the S is because when i draw a z it looks absolutely ridiculous so if i name my child elis/zabeth, i'd like to be able to write it nicely. but i also think it just looks softer.

yeah i've actually never met a little girl named emma, madison, isabella or ava either but i at least know of people who have given their children those names. olivia is completely unheard of. the only olivia i've ever known is a year younger than i am.

but then again i pretty much live in a nevaeh/jayden area to begin with, so.

True, but Anthony is extremely common in Italian families.

Not one bit surprised by any of those. Just glad to see that Jayden didn't break the top ten.

Nothing too shocking. I was kind of surprised that Jack and Aiden weren't ranked higher, but if you look at the ranks for Jack and Jackson, and Aiden and Aidan, combined they'd be a lot further up the list.

Also, Addison is #11. If I had seen Addison in the top ten, I might have screamed. There's always next year!

Yeah, and then if you add in Jayden/Cayden/Hayden/Brayden/other rhyming variants, it's overwhelming.
