Jan. 30th, 2006 12:06 pmI am annoyed at the movie industry.
Since about a year and a half ago, my SO and I decided that we'd name the next boy we had (if we had one) Tristan. I've been in love with the name since I was a teenager after reading the fable, Tristan and Isolde. Now I fear this new movie (which, incidentally, I can't WAIT to see) will make the name unbearably popular. Growing up as 1 of a zillion Jennifer's in the 80's has turned me off completely to anything extremely popular. I don't want to name my child that and it become the new "Aiden". So it leads me to this question, should I automatically dismiss it if it does become insanely popular? Should popularity matter quite so much when choosing a name? Ideally I won't have to worry about this when it comes time to think about it (we're not even trying yet, probably late this year,) but I was just wondering about it while trying to avoid working.
Opinions?

Date: 2006-01-30 09:34 am (UTC)my little sister is also named Jennifer so she has to deal with it just as much as I do, though born in the late 80's so it wasn't as bad for her.though it is now that she's older and slowly breaking out into the real world she's realizing what I grew up talking/complaining about when i would walk into homeroom in school and there be 6 of us.lol

Date: 2006-01-30 01:59 pm (UTC)an ex-friend of ours suggested it because of our love of music and we both loved it from the start :) Thankfully never had to go over girl names cuz I can just imagine how that woulda been.We never did agree on a boys name, hehe,i took it upon myself to decide he would be named after a very good friend of mine who passed away a couple years ago and daddy hates it.says no child of his would be named after someone for that reason-too bad...by some miracle we ever get back together and have another child and its a boy he will be named after my friend. :)
