The phenomenon that is Marie

So, why is it that Marie is everyone's and their mother's middle name? Its so rarely used as a first name. Whenever I meet someone named Marie I think "wait...thats against the rules, what possibly could their middle name be???"

Anywho, thoughts on Marie as a middle and first name? Would you ever give this middle name to your daughter?

I actually don't know anyone whose middle or first name is Marie.
But my mom's middle name is Maria.

And no I would not ever give the middle name Marie to my daughter.
