The phenomenon that is Marie

So, why is it that Marie is everyone's and their mother's middle name? Its so rarely used as a first name. Whenever I meet someone named Marie I think "wait...thats against the rules, what possibly could their middle name be???"

Anywho, thoughts on Marie as a middle and first name? Would you ever give this middle name to your daughter?

My middle name is Marie because it's a family name (all of my aunts are named Mary and my mum wanted to pay respect to them all--one being her sister and the other two being her sisters-in-law).
