Hey-

I am currently pregnant and my fiance and I are shooting around names. We sort of said if its a girl I would get to pick the first name and he would get the middle and then if its a boy he would get the first and I the middle...

So here is what we have so far:

Boy: Norman Joseph (Same as my fiances name, and my uncles name for the middle, tho everyone in my family has that middle name. it wouldn't be a junior either.)

Girl: Riley Marie

I really always wanted my kids to have unique names but I guess thats not really going to happen. I LOVE Riley but now of course I hear it everywhere and Marie is for his sister but I think its such a common middle name.

As time goes on I am starting to really dislike both of these but he is set on them so I dont really know how I can say umm ok new names, I dont like them anymore ...

Anyone have any ideas? Maybe different spelling or something? Middle names that might spice up the names?

To be honest, Norman is pretty much the only boy's name (together with Todd) I hate. I really like Joseph though.

I also like Riley Marie, but I agree it's not very unique (if that's still what you want). Also, Riley may be hard to pull of as an adult (maybe that's just me).

As for Marie...how about using a variant that's less common? Or just a similar name? Some suggestions:

I feel pretty much the same about Norman but I don't know how to really tell him that I really do not want my son named that, since its his name as well so obviously he likes it. And as for Marie ... his sisters name is Shawna but her middle name is Marie, hence why he wanted that... I've come to realize he isn't really much for taking risks. I know mine aren't that great either but I am willing to work on them lol he is really set in his choices so I am just hoping its a girl so I can sort of pick something interesting for the first name. I loved Riley until everyone has it now so I am starting to rethink it, i just wanted to see what others thought and thank you on the middle name ideas, ill pass them along to the fiance and hope he will find something else he likes.

Well how about 'honoring' him in a different way, like mixing up the letters? Roman has pretty much the same letters, I personally like that one. Oh, and I went to class with a guy called Moran...almost the same letters as well. So does Ramon...Aron..maybe that last one is a little too much of a stretch ;)
