Has your SO ever been stuck on a name that you've absolutely hated?

Example: My boyfriend and his brothers all have names that start with "J" (Jesse, Jerome, and Jonas). He has decided should he ever reproduce, his kids will also have J names. The two top choices:

Jesus (not with a soft J sound but Jee-sus)
Jedi

And no, he's not kidding.

Any takers?

Tell him there's plenty of *decent* J names out there :D

Maybe he's just exercising his imagination, coming up with those names.. sort of brainstorming.. he'll probably come around if he happens to reproduce for real :)

For us, it's been mostly the other way around, names that I've liked which SO was dead set against (he's actually considered "too out there" perfectly legit names), but I've always liked his taste in names.

I had a friend who did the exact same thing...also with the letter "J".
Her name is Jennifer, married a John (coincidence?), and had 3 children: Joseph, Jocelyn, and Jonas!

Um...Jesus I think is a bit much...because no matter how you pronounce it, it's still spelled the same way and that's what he'll have to tell people.
I did go to school with a Jesus (pronounced HEY-zeus), and he went by David!
Jedi seems a bit star-trekky (or is it star wars?) to me.

As the above person mentioned, there are plenty of nice "J" names.

well since it seems to be so important to him, i would probably go along with the J thing. I would not however, allow him to name the children Jesus and Jedi. There are plenty of nice J names so you would have plenty to chose from.

Whatever you do, do not have children and name them Jesus and Jedi just because he has a thing for Js. There are a lot of nice J names out there.

My coworker's brother is insistent that his first son will be named Luke Skywalker [Long and difficult to spell and pronounce last Indian name]. Luckily, the first kid was a girl.

My SO thinks it's child abuse to give a kid a horrible or silly name.

Oh, and to answer your question: my ex-boyfriend was into the name Jordan. I personally associate moronic girls who can't spell with the name Jordan (I have met several in my high school years) but I was willing to let it slide for a while. It's not that bad...and at the time, I really loved him. However, as soon as he started trying to blackmail me into having kids (he said that he only wanted kids now, if we didn't have kids now I would have to suffer never having kids), I took Jordan off the list. I also took him off the list of potential husbands. Cheerzzzzzzzzzz!~

I know a family, the parents are Jayly and Jennifer, the kids are J.J., Jasmyn or Jazmyn, I can't remember, and Jenay. Their last name starts with a J, too.

There's also the Duggars...all twenty billion of them have J names.

I'm too young to even be thinking of marriage (and I don't have a boyfriend) so I don't have this problem. I would definitely put my foot down on alliterations of names because I hate it so much. I would also put my foot down on Jesus and Jedi.

Well, Jedi could be a nick name for Jedidiah...

when i first asked my boyfriend what his favorite name was, he said mckayla..which i really, strongly dislike. when i asked him how he wanted to spell it, he said: m'kayla!!!! D:
i was horrified. i screamed: NO!! i told him that m'kayla was a completely made up spelling. he doesn't know much about names though. haha.

Give the nurse $20 and tell him/her to put the name you want on the certificate, no matter what your hubby insists on.

Please don't name your child Jesus. I say this as a devoted Christian and as a person who loathes mega-religious names on children, because what happens when that future child becomes something completely opposite of what their name implies? It makes for a sticky situation. >_<

Jedi... well... it's not as bad as I would think it would be. Granted, I know nothing of Star Wars, and I guess the references could get annoying every single day of that boy's life, but go for it.

Anyway, I'm not a fan of "theme names", especially when the theme is
letters (like the Duggar family and all 17 of their children have J names, and two of the girls actually have the same name. It's annoying.) just names that make sense together. And, well, you can always throw him a bone and use it as a middle name.

Tell your boyfriend to get real. Either one of those names would create a lifetime of cruel jokes. He'll have to come up with some other J names.

Are you referring to Joy-Anna and Johannah? Or what?

Yikes. Jedi and Jesus (Jeee-sus!) is probably the worst pair on names I have ever come across! Those kids would have to suffer through so many "I am your father" jokes.

My husband's got his heart set on Egon (yes, like in Ghostbusters). I'm trying to convince him to let us use it for a dog or something instead....

I don't discuss names with my boyfriend because we are only 18. I jokingly told him some names I liked once and he kinda freeeaked out!

I know that he basically hates all the names I like...and I got out of him eventually that he likes Jamie for a boy [I hate this so much] and Chloe for a girl..which is okish.

I agree with that totally, what happens if your parent is wildly Christian and names you Jesus or Catholic [I joke] or something and when you grow older, you start to identify more with a different religion!
