First off, I'm not pregnant nor do I plan to be in the near future. But I really like the following names so I thought I'd find out what people thought about them. Second, I'm going for the two middle names thing. Both my sister and I have two middle names and I can't imagine life without them. So I'm sticking to that for my children (if they will ever be born). For the record, I'm not fussy about how the names are thrown together so if you think of another combination that would sound better go right ahead and tell me. Enough rambling:
Girls:
Evangeline Aurora Rose
Gabriella Ripley Reese
Niamh Arwen Beatrix
Miho Eowyn June
Alexis Eunice Karabo
Boys:
Jakob William Toben
Karl Rory Julian
Lenin Eli Benjamin
Alejandro Eomer Joaquin
EDIT:
Perhaps I should have provided some explanation. I identify as socialist so I make a rather large distinction between Lenin & Trotsky and Stalin. Kind of like the way someone would see a difference between George W Bush and Ralph Nader. Also, I prefer Karl to Carl because I think Carl is boring and...surburban I suppose. Same with Jakob/Jacob.
Eunice is my mother's name and Karabo is a Sotho name (here in South Africa). If you're pronouncing it Caribou you're not getting it right. It's pronounced 'Kar-ah-boh' (it's a bit difficult to explain). And yes, I love LOTR but I would never use those names as a first name. Thanks for all the opinions though, some really cracked me up.

And Lenin... I'm not even going to bother.

3. Don't give a girl boy's name, and vice versa.
4. I personally hate two middle names, I have two and it's annoying.

Date: 2006-01-07 03:58 pm (UTC)I didn't actually like any of your girl name combinations, but here are the individual names that I liked:
Rose
Gabriella
Alexis
Here are some reasons why I didn't like some of your other names:
Evangeline - Sounds like evangelist
Aurora - Porn star name
Ripley, Reese - I think of both of these as boys names.
Niamh - Too hard to spell and I can't work out how to say it just by looking at it, which means people will have to constantly ask her what her name is even when it's right in front of them. (Unless you live somewhere where this name is common).
Arwen, Eowyn - Too Lord of the Rings. (I like LOTR, but I don't like it when people name their kids after it).
Eunice - Reminds me of eunuch.
Karabo - Reminds me of Caribou.
Boys names that I liked:
Jakob William Toben
Karl Rory Julian
Alejandro Eomer Joaquin - For some reason I'm ok with Eomer here, but I'm only leaving this combination in because you might be from a country where it's traditional.

Gaw, those are just mouthfuls. What are your reasonings?

Date: 2006-01-07 04:28 pm (UTC)Individually I do like:
Gabriella
Ripley (although it does remind me of Ripley's Believe it or Not, but I still really like it and have thought about it for my own use)
Beatrix (I love older style names, however it kinda reminds me of Harry Potter)
Alexis (Its one I have picked out for my own daughter some day)
Toben (I LOVE LOVE LOVE this one. My first son will be names Tobias Christopher, and I love that too. Again I like older style names)
Karl (My best friend's dad's name is Karel his parents are Czech and I like the spelling with the K (but would leave out the E as it always looks like it should be said Carrell to me which is obviously a female name)
Julian (but I would use it effeminately)
Eli (I like it with Benjamin too)
I don't like:
Aurora (Or Aurora Rose, or Rose which are all popular right now especially Aurora Rose) because it reminds me of the fairy from Sleeping Beauty
Arwen or Eowyn too LOTR for me
Beatrix - I like but it borders on Bellatrix from Harry Potter
Miho and Evangeline are just too odd for me
Eunice sounds hard and reminds me of Eunuch
Karabo reminds me of Caribou
Jakob I like Jacob but not a personal favorite and I'd much rather see the spelling with a C than a K, the K just makes the name look harsh
Rory sounds like a girls name and I'm in general not fond of it usually (sometimes I like it but it's rare)
Lenin has far too many negative historical connotations.
Alejandro I don't like unless you are of hispanic ethnicity and even then I think it's too over used.
Eomer and Joaquin are just too odd for me, I'm not even sure how to say them.
YES!!!!!
Date: 2006-01-07 04:31 pm (UTC)however i would not combine those with the first names you have...
Arwen Beatrix is cool and so is Eowyn June

Date: 2006-01-07 11:08 pm (UTC)Evangeline Aurora Rose: i like aurora better than evangeline, but i think using evangeline as the first name flows better.
Gabriella Ripley Reese: not sure if i like ripley, but the other two are pretty..the only problem is that when i hear gabriella and reese together, it makes me think of the volleyball player gabrielle reece. but i guess that's not that big of a deal.
Niamh Arwen Beatrix: i wouldn't know how to pronounce niamh.
Miho Eowyn June: miho is cute..in japan. i think she would get teased a lot. is eowyn pronounced like owen? kind of confusing.
Alexis Eunice Karabo: never been a fan of eunice & karabo seems more like a last name to me. i've never heard of it.
Boys:
Jakob William Toben: this is fine, but i'd prefer if jakob was spelled jacob and toben was spelled tobin.
Karl Rory Julian: not a big fan of karl with a "k". also, i think the three names are just too different sounding to work together.
Lenin Eli Benjamin: lenin should probably be spelled lennon to avoid any negative connotations.
Alejandro Eomer Joaquin: not sure how to pronounce eomer. it's a very ethnic-sounding name and i've never been a huge fan of joaquin.

Date: 2006-01-08 06:46 am (UTC)After reading your edit, might I suggest you do what they actually did in Russia when they were giving the kids names that honor him?
Ninel (Lenin, spelled backwards - I had a teacher named this)
Vladilena (from part of first name and part of last name)
Of course, these are both girls' names, but I think Ninel at least is pretty.
I don't see what's wrong with Karl or Jakob, but then parts of my family come from areas where those are the normal spellings.

Date: 2006-01-08 08:40 pm (UTC)The rest....well, I'm more a fan of sticking with just one nationality/language/whatever. Preferably one that's yours. I definitely wouldn't name my child Alejandro (although it's a very nice name) unless my husband was Hispanic. (If you're Hispanic/Latina, though, rock on with that)
Well, I'm a huge LOTR fan too, but I don't think the names translate well to the real world. Points for only using them as middle names, though. If you're set on it, that's definitely the way to go.
I understand that there is a difference between Lenin and Stalin and that Soviet Russia definitely =/= communist. But...I think it's asking for a hassle.

Date: 2006-01-09 12:31 am (UTC)I like Evangeline Aurora Rose, Jakob William Toben, and Karl Rory Julian as they are. Ks, Cs, whatever. I like "Eli Benjamin," but I can't say I care for Lenin - obviously, you do, so that's all right. Though, as the others say, be prepared for some flak on that.
Gabriella Ripley Reese flows well, though I am not a fan of Ripley or Reese. That's just a style issue, though.
The others, honestly, are extremely incongrous. I can understand the use of Karabo if you are South African, but Alejandro Eomer Joaquin? It's like "Spanish name - WTF LOTR?? - Spanish name..." Unless you are Spanish, Alejandro and Joaquin are already kind of out there - don't throw Eomer into that jumble, particularly not in the middle. Miho Eowyn June sounds like, "A geisha, a shieldmaiden and a fifties housewife walk into a bar..." Niamh Arwen Beatrix just doesn't flow.
To be frank, I generally have trouble with people naming from cultures that are not their own. Maybe it's narrow of me, but choosing a Japanese or Irish or Spanish or proto-Anglo-Saxon name because it sounds cool or cute just isn't appropriate. It's one thing if you are Japanese or Irish or Spanish, or have solid ties to those cultures, but choosing a random name from those cultures because it is interesting or means such-and-such is "nmsaa," if you catch me.

Date: 2006-01-09 04:31 am (UTC)On the whole foreign name issue, I honestly don't have any problem with it. Mainly because my two older sisters have Russian names and I have Native American and African names. Plus my surname is Scottish and I have Latvian ancestry. If the names are nice and they have meanings that you enjoy then I don't see the problem. But as you say, it's all personal preference.

Date: 2006-01-19 06:16 pm (UTC)I'll say what I said to someone else that I'm very anti-giving children more than three names (first, middle, last)...it's just too much. Why????
BUT, each of the names were beautiful. I would just personally leave it at a first and ONE middle name.
I'm big into spelling things "different" even though it's bad for the child. So I liked your variations.
Lenin
Date: 2006-05-29 09:22 pm (UTC)Great names, and I might even consider naming my daughter Lenin. :P
