[identity profile] omfg----hxc.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I just found out two of my cousins' full names: Lora Lynne and Julie Marie

My aunt has a friend at work who named her daughter Ella John. John was after the woman's father whom she was very close to...
Not a fan. My mom said all she could think of was Elton John and I kind of agree.

Another name: Taylor Elizabeth.

Taylor Elizabeth amuses me. My mom wanted to name me Kelly Grace but she was so drugged up and my psycho/asshole father stepped in and named me Michelle Lynn.

Well, if the name John means something to her, your opinion doesn't really matter.

It always amazes me how quick people can be to give their opinion on something that's really none of their business.

isnt that kind of the whole point of this community? its not like she gave the woman a tongue lashing for her choice of name. at least im assuming she didnt.

I didn't really think the point was to shoot down names that actually mean something to people. Then again, I could very well be wrong. I thought this community was simply a place to share names we like, but again -- I could be totally wrong.

To me, there is a difference between hearing a name, without knowing the backstory, and saying, "Well, I don't really like that" and knowing that a name actually means something to someone and saying, "Well, I'm not a fan." Because if that name means something to someone, and you know it does -- well, as I said, it's really none of your business.

But, as I have said, that's just what I think.

i see your point. i guess i am ok with someone saying it here, but if she said it to her face, then i would take issue with it.

for example, if i have a girl, her middle name is going to be colleen, which is after my mother who died four years ago, with whom i was extremely close. it bugs me when people comment telling me it "doesnt flow" after i explained the middle name meaning to me. so yes, i definitely see your point.

That's all I'm trying to say. I've had people turn up their noses at both of my middle names (Helen and Maureen) because, apparently, they don't "go together". When I explain the meanings that the names have for my parents (Helen was my father's mother's name; she died when he was twelve -- "Maureen" means "longed-for child", and my parents were told they would never have a child, so when I was born, they chose that name specifically for the meaning), they still say stuff like, "Well, that's nice, but the names still don't sound right together."

But it's none of their business. If a name means something to someone, then it's a lovely name to them, and that's all that matters.

ella is cute. i dont like any of the others.

ETA: my cousin named her daughter grace james (james after my uncle, whom she is very close to) so that story just reminded me.

I like your cousins' names!
I also like Taylor Elizabeth, even though I don't really like Elizabeth on its own that much.

BTW, good music. I love Fleetwood Mac.

Wait, I just realized... Elizabeth Taylor. I think that's fine, considering I want to name my first daughter Blair Linda. I'm not sure if you're purposely putting those names together as an homage to Elizabeth Taylor, but I couldn't care less about Linda Blair; I just really like those two names.

Srsly? At least I know who Linda Blair is and I'm concerned about people thinking I used the name because of her.

Oh, and I see you like Paramore too! =)
