One of my boyfriend's big guilty pleasures is "Star Trek." He was talking about it last night and I had a bad name flashback.
One of my exes was in the Navy. I remember him mentioning a few times that one of his fellow privates was named Starship Constellation. His parents were apparently huge "Star Trek" geeks. At the very least, I think his last name was something standard like Jones, and since everyone generally referred to one another by their last name, I guess that was what kept him from going on a killing spree. From what I remember, though, his superiors made fun of his name constantly, calling him Private Jefferson Starship, Private Dipper, Private Spock, etc.
I guess maybe it could have been worse, his last name could have been Dancer.

Name you kid Jean or James or Jadzia- but once you name your kid Worf or Spock or Starship Constellation it's time to go to the nuthouse.

Hopefully I can avoid having any Trekkies in my unit. Because Samantha Wildman is actually the name of a character in Star Trek. I probably won't get that lucky, though. A friend and I intend to go through boot together so I'm sure she'll "let it sleep" and I'll have hell to deal with.
Starship Constellation is pretty unfortunate, I must say. Though, "Star" isn't so bad a nickname to fall back on.
Also, if it was the navy it wouldn't have been private. It would have been Seaman Spock and Seaman Dipper. Which, that last one there, is pretty freakin' unfortunate for him.

My brother used to watch Star Trek from time to time and I'd watch it with him sometimes. I really liked B'Lana for a girl back then.

If I had to pick an "out there" Star Trek name I suppose I could use Jadzia. Or Nerys, but that's a real name and I'm not sure it's pronounced the same as in Star Trek...

A quick trip to imdb told me it was from Star Trek: Voyager and her name is actually spelled B'Elanna.
