Dec. 28th, 2005 11:09 amMy husband and I are expecting our first child in less than a week, and we're still crunching on names. We do have the middle names down:
River for a girl, Nathan for a boy. We have two girls names picked:
Ainsley River
and
Mackenzie River
and three boys names:
William Nathan
Christopher Nathan
Jacob Nathan
Which are your favorites? Why? Or, if you don't like any of them, why not?

Date: 2005-12-28 10:19 am (UTC)The boy names are all too commmon for my taste but my choice would be William, called William, no Will or Billy. Liam is an ok nn though. Jacobs are EVERYWHERE right now. Christopher is probably not as common these days as it used to be, but I grew up with and dated so many Christophers... I'm just tired of it.

Date: 2005-12-28 03:53 pm (UTC)i dont really like either of the girls names, mackenzie is trendy and ainsley reminds me of a girl youd find taking tennis lessons at the country club. of the two, i would pick ainsley, i think.
the boys names are nice but jake and jacob are everywhere, like everyone else said. william and christopher are great timeless names though.
congratulations!!

Really, I'm not trying to be rude here, but that's the only thing I can think of when I hear Mackenzie River. So yeah, Ainsley is definitely better :)
eek
Date: 2005-12-28 10:25 am (UTC)Is the Mackenzie River thing a joke? (I'm really asking, not being snarky)
If you are not joking, please, please don't name her that. The Mackenzie River is very well known. It is the longest river in Canada (and the second longest in North America after the Mississippi). So it's like naming a kid Mississippi River - even you have some great sentimental attachment to the river, it's still pretty ridiculous.
Check it out on Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mackenzie_River
Besides, Mackenzie is a trendy name that will sound very dated in a generation (and IMO last names don't usually make good first names, esp. for girls). Ainsley's nice.
I like all your boys' names.
Re: eek
Date: 2005-12-28 10:34 am (UTC)My husband likes Mackenzie, though, so it might stay there, with a different middle name. Ugh.
Re: eek
Date: 2005-12-28 10:37 am (UTC)I don't like Mackenzie anyway, but if you do use it a different mn would definitely be in order! Something more feminine I'd say...
Congratulations and best of luck with your birth :) You'll probably know what her name is when you see her.

Date: 2005-12-28 10:35 am (UTC)As other posters have said, Mackenzie is overused and horrible.

Date: 2005-12-28 10:38 am (UTC)Both are really trendy names, so will be/get really common then date. That and I think if you're using a unisex middle name, that the first name should be obviously feminine (or vice versa) to balance that.
River is a wonderful name. One of my faves for a boy, but is nice for a girl too.
I like William Nathan, very classic but it's fairly unusual these days. Every other boy is being named Jacob right now, and Christopher is overdone/blah.

Date: 2005-12-28 03:49 pm (UTC)I like all of the boys' names but if I had to pick one it would be Jacob. I knew a right nasty boy called Christopher and William is my uncle's name so I prefer Jacob.

Date: 2005-12-28 04:07 pm (UTC)I think Ainsley is so cute.
River always makes me think of the last card in a poker game.
As far as boys, I like William the best. The others are too common.

Date: 2005-12-28 09:36 pm (UTC)I love the name Jacob, it's popular but beautiful nonetheless. I think Jacob Nathaniel sounds tons better. I love your pick of River for a middle name!

Date: 2005-12-29 01:49 pm (UTC)River is such a unisex name, a cool middle name i think.. botht he first names are unisex too. I think the name would sound very blah..
Plus Mackenzie is very popular, too popular for my liking. Theres nothing special/pretty about it to use.
I feel the same with the popularity thing about Ava & Lily, but they are pretty names anyhow & it seems to matter less.
Jacob Nathan is my favourite but they are all good names.
