[identity profile] kay-ay-ay-lee.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My husband and I are expecting our first child in less than a week, and we're still crunching on names. We do have the middle names down:
River for a girl, Nathan for a boy. We have two girls names picked:
Ainsley River
and
Mackenzie River

and three boys names:
William Nathan
Christopher Nathan
Jacob Nathan

Which are your favorites? Why? Or, if you don't like any of them, why not?

I like Ainsley much more than Mackenzie.

The boy names are all too commmon for my taste but my choice would be William, called William, no Will or Billy. Liam is an ok nn though. Jacobs are EVERYWHERE right now. Christopher is probably not as common these days as it used to be, but I grew up with and dated so many Christophers... I'm just tired of it.

how is it that i never knew that liam was a nickname for william? interesting. love the name liam, though, just never occurred to me.

i dont really like either of the girls names, mackenzie is trendy and ainsley reminds me of a girl youd find taking tennis lessons at the country club. of the two, i would pick ainsley, i think.

the boys names are nice but jake and jacob are everywhere, like everyone else said. william and christopher are great timeless names though.

congratulations!!

I like the boys' names.

Both girl's names are very trendy and common these days.

I like Mackenzie River. I think it flows nicely.

Hehehe... the Mackenzie River does flow nicely, all the way into the Arctic ocean...

Sorry, I couldn't help myself :)

Really, I'm not trying to be rude here, but that's the only thing I can think of when I hear Mackenzie River. So yeah, Ainsley is definitely better :)

eek

LOL
Is the Mackenzie River thing a joke? (I'm really asking, not being snarky)
If you are not joking, please, please don't name her that. The Mackenzie River is very well known. It is the longest river in Canada (and the second longest in North America after the Mississippi). So it's like naming a kid Mississippi River - even you have some great sentimental attachment to the river, it's still pretty ridiculous.

Check it out on Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mackenzie_River

Besides, Mackenzie is a trendy name that will sound very dated in a generation (and IMO last names don't usually make good first names, esp. for girls). Ainsley's nice.

I like all your boys' names.

Hahaha. Poor you! But you did catch it in time - better now than when she's in geography class and starts wondering why she was named after a Canadian body of water :)

I don't like Mackenzie anyway, but if you do use it a different mn would definitely be in order! Something more feminine I'd say...

Congratulations and best of luck with your birth :) You'll probably know what her name is when you see her.

I like Christopher and Jacob better than William. I also like Ainsley much better than MacKenzie, but I'm not at all crazy about River.

I like Ainsley River and Jacob Nathan.

As other posters have said, Mackenzie is overused and horrible.

Not keen on the girls names, though of the two I prefer Ainsley just the teeniest bit more.
Both are really trendy names, so will be/get really common then date. That and I think if you're using a unisex middle name, that the first name should be obviously feminine (or vice versa) to balance that.

River is a wonderful name. One of my faves for a boy, but is nice for a girl too.

I like William Nathan, very classic but it's fairly unusual these days. Every other boy is being named Jacob right now, and Christopher is overdone/blah.

Mackenzie has always been a horrible name IMO. Ainsley is nice. I really like the name William.

While they really aren't my style, my favorites out of the above listed are:

Mackenzie River & William Nathan

William definetely for a boy...JAcob is way common. My mom is a teacher and there are 4 Jacobs in her class. Christopher has always been common and I really dont like it. WIlliam is classic and I like it alot. Ainsley for a girl. I dont like Mackenzie at all...but it is your child this is just my opinion

I like William Nathan the best. My baby cousin that was just born last Oct is named Nathan William. I like that better, actually, b/c Nathan is less common.

In my opinion, you shouldn't finalise your decision until you see your baby. And then go with what seems right, he simply may not be a Jacob, or she might be a Mackenzie.
But, since you asked for opinions, I don't like the name Christopher, not do I like the nickname Chris... sorry, but I don't know why...

I'm not really fond of either of the girls' names but I suppose I prefer Ainsley River because MacKenzie is a surname where I'm from (Scotland). Ainsley sounds slightly more feminine.

I like all of the boys' names but if I had to pick one it would be Jacob. I knew a right nasty boy called Christopher and William is my uncle's name so I prefer Jacob.

Not that I don't like my uncle but William just seems like an old name to me. I can't imagine calling a baby that!

The Mackenzie River is a real river in western Canada. So unless you're from British Columbia, I'd stay away from that.

I think Ainsley is so cute.

River always makes me think of the last card in a poker game.

As far as boys, I like William the best. The others are too common.

I really dislike the name Mckenzie, and it's getting very popular. Ainsley is cute, but I knew a girl with that name and she said people had a difficult time pronouncing it. I definitely like Ainsley more though. :)

I love the name Jacob, it's popular but beautiful nonetheless. I think Jacob Nathaniel sounds tons better. I love your pick of River for a middle name!

I loooove Ainsley, but I hate Mackenzie. Everyone and their mother is named that now. =P

I don't really like either girl name... both are trendy and don't go well with River. Why not name her River? That's gorgeous.

William Nathan is alright. The only one I like, with NN Will or Liam, never Billy!

I have to definitely vote for Ainsley River and for Jacob Nathan. I'm quite attached to the name Jacob, though, for no reason other than I just love the way it sounds.

I dont like Ainsley or Mackenzie.
River is such a unisex name, a cool middle name i think.. botht he first names are unisex too. I think the name would sound very blah..
Plus Mackenzie is very popular, too popular for my liking. Theres nothing special/pretty about it to use.
I feel the same with the popularity thing about Ava & Lily, but they are pretty names anyhow & it seems to matter less.

Jacob Nathan is my favourite but they are all good names.
