(no subject)

I got the book Wicked for Christmas, and I really find myself liking the name Nessarose. It think it's quite pretty. (I still probably wouldn't give it to a child, though.) What do you guys think?

Also, what are some of your favorite names that you got from books or movies?

Man, I couldn't bring myself to even like her name, she was such a whiny, obnoxious character.
But then, according to myself and everyone who knows me and has read Wicked, I AM Elphaba. Whatever. =P

That said, I'm not sure I like the idea of the name Nessarose. It seems like a weird amalgamation of Vanessa and Rose...both of which are fine names on their own, but I'm not sure I enjoy that particular type of combo. (Though if you're a diehard Wicked fan, it'd be funny to name your daughter Vanessa Rose just to see if anyone gets the reference...=D )

I second the suggestion of Vanessa Rose. Nessarose reminds me of the Loch Ness Monster, (Nessie), and it sounds a bit strange.

I'd never use it but I loved Omri from "Indian in the Cupboard".
Also I love the name Asher, like in The Giver.

Ahh.. I loved Omri when I was younger, too.

we actually got my son's name from Brad Pitt's character in "Legends of the Fall" (Tristan)

x2. Juliet is my favorite name ever.

Also, Tristan from Gilmore Girls, although that isn't a movie.

Lux from The Virgin Sucides

Nimue (nim-oo-ay) from Arthurian legend
Dulcinea from Don Quixote

Eee! Love Dulcinea!

(except how it turned out that she was a rather plain and vulgar milkmaid - was that it? That, or she didn't exist - I can't remember anymore)

Not for a kid.

A cat, maybe.

I was thinking the same thing. If you like the name that much, give it to your dog.

I love the names from the Vamp Chronicles - Lestat, Vittorio, Armand, Marius, etc.
