So, I was looking at my name list yesterday. One of the names for a girl that I really like is Rayne. So I got to thinking that if I spelled it "Raine", then it could be considered to be in honor of my grandmother, "Lorraine" (which name I really don't like. Bad connotations having nothing to do with my grandmother). I was wondering what you all thought of naming a child "after" some one, but not using the exact name. Not necessarily a using nickname, but a variation or different spelling?

Anyway, the four [EDIT]grandmothers great-grandmothers of the aforementioned potential child are: Lorraine, Margaret, Helen, and Josephine.

Variations I've come up with are:
Lorraine:
Raine
Raina
Lorelei
Lorelle

Margaret:
Margaux
Margot
Marguerite
Greta

Helen:
Helaine
Helene
Helena
Lena
Elaine

Josephine:
Josephina
Josette

Any others spring to mind?
