Feb. 11th, 2008 09:15 pmJust curious on everyone's thoughts on these names:
Jack
Miles [nn Milo]
James [nn Jamie]
Luca
Sophie
Pier
Ofelia/Ophelia
I quite like Jack, but for some reason it seems a little to plain to me. I'm torn; I'm not sure if I would use it or not. I like Milo a lot more than Miles but everyone seems to think that Milo sounds like a dog's name or that it's too nicknamey. I've always loved James, although again it seems a little plain. The nickname Jamie has really grown on me, even though my best friend [who is a girl] is called Jamie and sometimes it trips me up to think of it on a boy. My sister and I have fought over who gets to use the name Lucas for years now, but lately I've been favoring Luca a little bit more, I'm not sure why.
I've always loved Sophie; it seems so classic and ageless. I prefer it to Sophia, although I think that name is pretty as well. I know Pier is commonly a boy's name and that Pier Angeli, who I would use the name after, was really named Annamaria Pierangeli, so Pier was not actually her first name. But I find something charming about it regardless. I don't know if I'd ever honestly use it but I like it quite a lot. Ofelia I've just recently started to take a liking too, although I'm not sure which spelling I prefer. I'm wondering about nicknames as well, as I can't think of any except maybe Lia off the top of my head.

Date: 2008-02-12 04:29 am (UTC)Miles [nn Milo] - I really like Miles but I don't like Milo
James [nn Jamie] - Jamie is all girl to me. James is ok
Luca - a GP of mine for a girl. Its a good name though but the a at the end throws me. I prefer just Luke for a boy
Sophie - its nice but I think it sounds too young.
Pier - I dislike this one. Pier to me only makes me think of a shipping pier or something.
Ofelia/Ophelia - all i hear is teenage boys saying Oh-feel-ya or feel ya. So i say def not.

Date: 2008-02-12 04:34 am (UTC)Miles: I love it because of the jazz legend (Miles Davis).
James: A classic.
Luca: Nice, but overused.
Sophie: Like you said, a classic name. It's timeless and sophisticated.
Pier: Like "peer"? It's okay.
Ofelia: I love this; always have. I much prefer this spelling too. I don't like "Ophelia".

Date: 2008-02-12 06:06 pm (UTC)Miles [nn Milo] - I like both, but I wouldn't use them in combination with each other.
James [nn Jamie] - love love love the nn Jamie. Can't decide if I like James or Jameson better
Luca - cute
Sophie - I like it alright but it screams nn to me and I prefer formal first names with nns attached
Pier - it's something you fish off of
Ofelia/Ophelia - like Ophelia. Probably wouldn't have the guts to use it as a first name, only a middle.
