Date: 2004-11-22 08:26 pm (UTC)i always get that Aeary is too feminine....that's what i worry, that all the boy names i like are going to result in teasings--that is, unless they develop a sort of boy-named-sue syndrome...oh, i don't know.

Date: 2004-11-24 05:53 am (UTC)There's always a worry about teasing, but honestly, whether their name is alice or aeary, they're going to be teased over something, and i'd rather be told my name is stupid than that my face is ugly. I also try to keep in mind that just because you're teased over something as a child doesn't ruin your life or even have much effect on it at all. Thinking back, *i* was teased for having a less-than-common name...and i think this is the first time i've even thought of it since i was in the 3rd grade. At this point, i'm glad i was given a name that's just a wee bit different.
May not count for anything, but that's the best defense i can cook up for naming kids weird things.

Date: 2004-12-16 12:03 pm (UTC)Hamlet is my favorite. Given, you're right and ophelia was insane, but i don't necessarily equate the name opelia with insanity, either.
(that and, considering where i'm living at the time, it's not like the majority of the people in the nearby surroundings have read Hamlet....or anything else, for that matter.)
