My cashier today at the grocery store was Schnya.

What do you think?

When I first saw it I loved how it looked (but I also love names like Myrna for the same reason) but then saying it out loud I didn't as much.

I would love to adopt a little girl in the near future and I hope to use my mother's name Janet for a middle name. However, I am having trouble coming up with a first name that sounds good with it. My last name begins with an M and has 3 syllables.

I like names that are 100% feminine and not too common, but not crazy either. I dislike names that are spelled "kreatively" too. Huge pain in the butt to explain to people that your name is Maddysyn -whatever the last name is- w/ 2 D's and 2 Y's.

I created two fictional sibsets for a story. Though these aren't real people, they are names that I actually like and some are potentials for my future children. I'd love to hear opinions!

Also, I'm going to be sticking to the first names for the story, but I'd like suggestions for alternate middle names.

Sibset 1: River Harrison, Nico Thomas, Noemi Grace, Lea Katherine

Sibset 2: Esme Corrine, Noam Walter, Simon Gabriel, Mara Nicole, Lucy Genevieve, Quinn Lawrence, Julia Celine, Tobias Elliott

There's an article on international students at the school. The Asian students have chosen English names for themselves so those will be in quotes after their given first name. Country of origin will be in parenthesis. Here are the names mentioned:

Guoxuan "Eric" (China)
Natalie (Costa Rica)
Lilli (Germany)
John and Ian (brothers from New Zealand)
Marc (Germany)
Haiheng "Charlie" (China)
"James" (Thailand, assuming James is his English name because they only used the names the kids are going by in the side panel. This was the only time he was mentioned so that's the only name I have for him.)

There's also a section on the school's board with little blurbs about each person. Many mentioned children.

Danielle and Christopher
Ryan, Danielle, and Taylor
Chase and Connor
Alexis
Emily and Caroline
Carolina, Bibi, Lucas, and Marcos
Rose, Mitchell, Jack and Quinn (Jack and Quinn are twins)
Tyler, Lindsey, and Connor
Chloe
Michael, Ben, and Luke
Amanda, Greg, Brett, Mary, Paul, Teresa, and Bernadette

I came across a 2nd grade girl at our school today called Eda (pronounced Ed-ah.) According to nymbler, Eda is:

A girl's name of English and Irish origin that is relatively unfamiliar today. Eda was most popular in 1916 and is currently not among the top 1000 U.S. girls' names. Meaning: English: rich gift.

WDYT? Personally it's too old-fashioned and a bit unfeminine for me.

What really old fashioned names (most popular in the 1910's - 1920's) do you like?

So I'm kind of in love with Nordic names. I found some that I really like, although I'm not sure if I'd use them on a child; I just think they sound/look extremely cool.

Viking-like awesomness ahead... )

Like any? Which ones, if any, would you consider using IRL?
