Hi! I'm new to this community and thought I would ask for some thoughts/suggestions. I'm almost 13 weeks pregnant so we've started thinking about names. My name is Amanda May and while I like it, it never really had any meaning to me. My mom could never really tell me why she named me it except that, "No one liked Megan." So, she just went and picked one of the most popular names of 1983 instead or something. I want to pick names that mean something to me. So far we have:

Dominik James for a boy, Dominic was my husband's grandfather and James is my husband's/father in law's name. I want to spell it Dominik because it's the Slavic spelling. My husband comes from a very Italian family, and I come from a very Polish one. I feel like it would be making a nod to both families that way.

For a girl I'm rather in love with Aurelia. Again, it's a name most commonly used in Germany, Italy, Poland, and Romania, so I think that it would be a great way to incorporate both nationalities. My husband is a little at odds with the name, he thinks that it is a beautiful name, but that it might be too strange. I like strange though. I'm hoping that the right middle name will sell him on it. I haven't been able to settle on a middle name though, I'm thinking about May though because it's my own middle name and I always loved it. It is a bit boring though and suddenly very trendy. Any ideas?

**Last name is Mangefrida.

Thoughts?

**Edited because sometimes my thought process loops around.

Okay, I'm going to ask for honest opinions here, even though I'm not sure I'm going to like what I hear, but what do you think of the name Raphael for a girl?

My reason for asking is that it has for a long time been my favourite boys name, although I was always a little dubious about using it for a number of reasons... Then, I mention it to the significant other, and he says that it's too feminine for a boys name, but that he quite likes it for a girl.

I'm somewhat torn here, because now he's said that, I can't get it out of my head. I think it probably is a bit feminine sounding to me, and the more I get used to it the more I like it. On top of this, I grew up with a boys name, I'm Steve and I'm a girl. On the one hand, it was kind of difficult and still provides me with some difficult situations. On the other, for a great many reasons I've grown to really like it, I'm never stuck for a conversation starter and people always remember me...and Raphael isn't quite as Mannish as Steve....but then, I thought Raphael was too out there for a boy...

Anyway, all opinions welcome. Not just Yes or No, but any reasons or associations. I'm not pregnant or anything yet, but my list grows ever shorter and I need to be careful about what gets left in...

After a lot of deliberation my husband and I decided on the name Rowan for a boy. I mentioned it to someone and they told me they thought it was a girls name. Just googling around it doesn't seem like any Rowan's are female. Do you guys get the impression that Rowan is a girls name?

I'm also deliberating on the spelling of the name. I like 'Roan' but my husband thinks it's too confusing for pronunciation as it can be pronounced like 'RoAN' or just like 'Rone'. The name could also be spelled as Rohan or Rowen.

Thoughts? Opinions? Thanks!

My fiance was playing Europa Universalis 2 yesterday when he started telling me about different provinces he wanted to attack (or something like that, I don't play it) and one of them was called Dauphine.

Now, I have heard of this place before, it's in France, but I never thought about it as a name.

The more we thought about it, the more we both loved the idea of calling a daughter Dauphine. We both find it beautiful and love the way it rolls off the tongue.

We're not married yet and we don't want to have children until we are next year, but we find it so hard to agree on names this was a mircale x]

He prefers older names like Raziel, but never really has any prefence for girls' names, so it's good to find one we both love.

Anyway, i'll stop the rambling now! Sorry about that...what do you think of Dauphine as a name for a little girl?
