[identity profile] cairtirnin.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Hi! I'm new to this community and thought I would ask for some thoughts/suggestions. I'm almost 13 weeks pregnant so we've started thinking about names. My name is Amanda May and while I like it, it never really had any meaning to me. My mom could never really tell me why she named me it except that, "No one liked Megan." So, she just went and picked one of the most popular names of 1983 instead or something. I want to pick names that mean something to me. So far we have:

Dominik James for a boy, Dominic was my husband's grandfather and James is my husband's/father in law's name. I want to spell it Dominik because it's the Slavic spelling. My husband comes from a very Italian family, and I come from a very Polish one. I feel like it would be making a nod to both families that way.

For a girl I'm rather in love with Aurelia. Again, it's a name most commonly used in Germany, Italy, Poland, and Romania, so I think that it would be a great way to incorporate both nationalities. My husband is a little at odds with the name, he thinks that it is a beautiful name, but that it might be too strange. I like strange though. I'm hoping that the right middle name will sell him on it. I haven't been able to settle on a middle name though, I'm thinking about May though because it's my own middle name and I always loved it. It is a bit boring though and suddenly very trendy. Any ideas?

**Last name is Mangefrida.

Thoughts?

**Edited because sometimes my thought process loops around.

You mean he's at odds with May being strange? I would say it's the exact opposite. It has a couple spelling variations but May/Mae is very popular.

I think Aurelia is a beautiful name. And I like Dominic.

Just saying, Dominik might sure be a nod in the Polish direction, but it's "less italian" than Dominic, considering the equivalent in italian would be Domenico.

I love Aurelia, and Aurelia May sounds gorgeous :) but I would only recommend it if it's going to be pronounced Ah-oo-relia, I despise O-relia.

Some mn suggestions:
Aurelia Rebecca
Aurelia Sabrina/Zabrina
Aurelia Faye
Aurelia Jade
Aurelia Evangelina
Aurelia Sophia
Aurelia Daphne
Aurelia Francesca

While I like Aurelia, I just thought I would mention that a friend of mine with that name hates it. She says she was often teased by being called "areola" which, while not the worst teasing I can think of in the world, probably is tough on a young girl.

Anyway, just thought I'd say something because her mentioning it pushed the name off my list and while I am not out to ruin a name for anyone, I think it's worth mentioning.

I love the name Aurelia, I remember seeing it in a hymnal at church when I was little and thinking what a pretty name it would be for a girl.

Great names. I like them both :) and I think May would be a great middle name- Aurelia Mangefrida is very unique and it'd be nice to have something short, simple and classic like May in the middle.
