Today at work I spoke with the mother of an 11 year old boy who's name is Kendall, but spelled Kyndhal.

Tthe very first Kendall I ever met was a guy in high school that happened to be nice looking and friendly. However, I now know more girl Kendalls then boys, so the name seems a tad bit more feminine to me that when I first heard it. That being said, I don't have an issue with a boy named Kendall. It's just that spelling is horrible!

Since my last post regarding Georgia, I was thinking about other name variants and which people liked better, so I have compiled a little survey of similar names and am wondering which ones you all prefer. My thoughts will be in the comments.

Which do you prefer?

What do you think about the name Jinger? I kind of love it.

One of my favorite boy names is "Dean"
I love how it's a one syllable, strong sounding name.
I got it from a character in Jack Kerouac's On The Road.

What are your opinions on the name?

One of my main naming pet peeves is when people give their children gender ambiguous names so that you cannot tell if the child is a boy or girl. Spellings sometimes help identify eg Taylor is more masculine than Tayla. It's not that I hate unisex names or even boy names on girls and vice verca, but unisex combos drive me insane! If I was going to give a girl a unisex/masculine name then I'd pair it with an uber-girly name eg Riley Sophia

Here are just a few examples from this weekends papers... Can you tell if these are boys or girls?

Riley Tallen
Mackenzie Jayden
Brooklyn Finn
Tulli Raine
Jaden Taylor

What are some others that you have seen? Anyone have the same issue with naming etiquette as me?

OK, the winners!
Boy: James
Girl: Elizabeth

Any thoughts that haven't been shared already? So far it seems that some of you love them, some of you hate them and some of you think they're boring (not that different from any other names posted really). Do you think they were the best of the original list?

Personally, I do like James a lot but would only use it as a middle because I have a cousin with that name, and my family has enough people with the same name already!

Elizabeth I think is fine, but I doubt I'd use it. Catherine I do like, although I would be more likely to use Katherine or another related name rather than Catherine itself (The C spelling was my grandmother's name, it's also the middle name of one of my cousins so that's why I used that spelling on the list).

FWIW, my favourites for girls are Lucy (have loved this name since I was a kid and would use it without hesitation) and probably some form of Catherine...basically they are all in the running except Kathleen! For boys I would be most likely to use Alexander or Felix for an actual kid, but I also LOVE Marcus and Adam, they just would sound bad with my surname. Probably just as well that I'm unlikely to be naming anything but cats, so it's all good.

i've been avoiding an art assignment because i loathe five-paragraph essays, but looked over the criteria again and found that i can write a story about a piece of art. i'm having trouble coming up with names for the characters depicted in edgar degas' "waiting" (found here). help with french names would be wonderful. i'm leaning toward margeaux for the dancer, but i'm open to suggestions. thank you so much! :D
