What do you guys think of names with accents, such as Tomàs ('Toe-mas') or Simón ('See-mon' not 'sigh-men')? The reason I ask is I've never seen accents on formal paperwork, but maybe that's because I'm in the USA. So, it seems almost unfair to give a child a name with an accent if it will always be "misspelled" but I guess it depends on how much it upsets the parents in the beginning and the child later on.

Or maybe I'm wrong? Do schools, and other paperwork include accents?

How did you decide on your kid's/kids' name(s)? Family name? Did you argue with your significant other about it?

Just wondering!

Would you?

Hello! Im neew and about as near to being a mother as.. well.. i'm young and theres uni to go to.. but i study languages, and i have a thing about names. However, after reading about some truly bizarre things people call their children, i thought i'd add this one to the mix.

I work at an opticians, and this means we have to confirm names if theyve emailed me for an appointment and such.

One name i came across was Jimihendrix. All one word. With an average surname.

Really.. what?!?!

Opinions?

What do you think of the sibset Geneva and Augusta?

I saw a post the other day regarding Geneva, and it reminded me to post about my sister's choices--she's having twin girls in a month. I guess you could say our family is obsessed with children, and extremely fertile:  we recently had triplets, my sister-in-law will have a single birth in three months, and my sister will be having twins shortly.

I think the names go quite well together. They like the nicknames Eve and Auggie, though I think both names stand beautifully as is.

Hey guys. So. After a major, severe, LONG writers block, i finally am writing stories/novels/whatever you wanna call them again :) But i ALWAYS have a lot of trouble naming my characters. So i was thinking you guys can help me. I'll write down what the main characters and any information i can think of about them :)

I need you to name....

1: The Main Character: Girl, 16 or 17. (I haven't decided yet)
2: Little sisters: 12-year-old twin girls
3: Older sister: Sophomore in college who wont be around much
4: Mom and Dad

5: Female Best Friend: Same age as main character
6: Runner up female best friend: (Very close but not THE best friend...we all have em lol)
7: Close guy friend
8: Main girls love interest:

(So at some point during the story the girls gonna move about 2 hours away and basically its her juggling her life between her old friends and new friends (I know it sounds cheesy but its my life right now so its giving me some inspiration)

9: First new friends (One boy and one girl)
10: 4 Random new friends
11: Random new BOY:

Feel free to throw in any names you happen to like that i could use for random side people.

Ok. Thanks guys seriously. I really just cannot think of names for these people. :(

Newbie here. I love names (I'm a writer), so this community is perfect. I just thought I'd share some names I found 'amusing'.

My boss has a daughter named Koedie, and her sister recently had twins, named 'Avah-Lilly' (I think there was also a middle name) and 'Jhett Phoneix' (either the middle name's a mistake on my boss' part, or that's how it's spelt).

I had a bit of a chuckle about it, then told my mother, who was like, 'WTF?'. She can't really talk; her name's Lo-Ann and she gets some pretty strange reactions.

Thoughts?

Ok fellow Baby namers,  It is three weeks or so until our due date... we have had a name picked out for our baby girl for about 4 months now.... and today we decided to change it completely!!!

I feel like a moron, because we have already told people the name and my 2 year old already calls the baby by the name we had chosen... but I had really begun to not like it and today my husband totally agreed with me and agreed with what to change it to..... So I feel a bit in shock and I will feel dumb telling everyone it is different but we are really happier with the new name and after all, better to change it now and not regret it later. I just really wish we had not made up our minds so early! And we should have done what we did with our first pregnancy and not told until the birth!
Your thoughts???
