I went to the theatres to see the Golden Compass yesterday, and knowing me, I found another name that intrigues me slightly.

What do you guys think of the name Lyra? I think I like it more in theory, than in actuality.

Spelling names in an nontraditional way irks me for some reason. I mean I know it's completely up to the parents how they name thier child but I would never do it to my kids.

Does anyone else feel this way? I don't know it's just a huge pet peeve for me. I'm 9 months pregnant and I'm naming my daughter Harley. My best friend would like me to spell her name differently so that it is more feminine i.e. Harleigh, Harlie, or Harlee. I don't want the name to be more feminine though, if I had wanted a feminine name I would have chosen one, right?

Also a friend of mine named her daughter Kamryn. I love the little girl to death and I really like the name but hate the spelling, I just don't understand why people cannot leave well enough alone.

What are all of you thoughts?

his real name is Michael T. Williamson, but i guess at some point in his acting career he decided to have a 'stage name', which obviously a lot of actors do... so he just threw his first & middle initial together, creating Mykelti (said like "Michael T.") -- if you don't know who he is, here is his wiki entry.

so this spawned an idea. a game, really... using your first name & middle initial (or last initial, if your middle one is impossible to use, or you don't have one), what could your "kry8ve" stage name(s) be?

I've been going through some of my stuff in storage since I've been home for Christmas break. While I was going through some boxes I found some old notebooks. I've been obsessed with names since I was a little kid. By my best estimates these names were compiled when I was thirteen and just starting high school.

I've some of the names found in this eight page list of names int he cut below. This is about half of the names on the lists.

The * were on the original list and I assume indicated my favorites.

Italics indicate names that I actually do like still.

The Names... )

For the record, I don't know if these were intended for actual people or characters in stories. I wrote a lot of stories at the time so either is possible. Some of the names were used in stories also found on those notebooks.

Hey all.
Here are the top names of the children at the school I work at.
The school has about 550 children. The following names are listed if 2 or more children share the same names (different spellings of the same name do not count).

Girls )

Boys )

What do you think?
I think the spread of names is quite interesting as it's a Catholic school and the majority of the children at the school are either Asian, Fillipino or NZ European.

not sure

What do you think of the name Hollis? For a girl, though I don't think I've ever seen it used on a boy...

I've officially been sentenced to bed rest, and thus confined to watching television and playing on the computer, and the name came up in a news article I read today. I sort of like it, but I don't think it would sound right as a first name. Thoughts?
