What do you think of the name Hollis? For a girl, though I don't think I've ever seen it used on a boy...

I've officially been sentenced to bed rest, and thus confined to watching television and playing on the computer, and the name came up in a news article I read today. I sort of like it, but I don't think it would sound right as a first name. Thoughts?

It makes me think of the book Pictures of Hollis Woods. It's not my favourite name, though--it's just not my taste!

I'm sorry about the bedrest!

I don't think it sounds right as a first name. It's okay, and I like the nn Holly, but I don't really like it.

I've only heard it used as a boy's name, so it's hard to get past that. Sorry!

I like it. I read a book once with a female character called Hollis, and I've heard it on boys once or twice, so I can imagine it on either. I don't think I'd use it myself, but I can definitely see it as a first name.

I know a boy named Hollis, so I can't imagine it as anything else. It's a decent name, but I don't love it.

Holly can be a boys name, if Hunter is a girls name.. which I saw a few days ago.

I think it's a pretty surname. Don't like it for a first name.

I like Hollis for a boy..a lot, actually. It's kind of old fashioned but I don't know. I like it. I'd probably nn him Olli if I ever named my son Hollis.

I don't like it at all for a girl, though.

I know a guy with the last name Hollis. That's all we called him, and all I think of when I hear it is "boy".

I think its a unique name, not horrible. I had a neighbor named Hollis (male) and there is a female Hollis on Crowned, Mother of All Pagents. For some reason though it has kind of a country-bumpkin sound to it to me.

I think I wouldn't mind it on either sex, but particularly with the nickname Holly for a girl, but when I hear that word, the first thing I've thought of for as long as I can remember is Run-D.M.C. singing
