Could Shauna possibly work as a nickname for Siobhan?

WTF?

Some of you may remember the name Jasmine Guy _____ from one of my "interesting names" post. I thougt it was interesting because of the actress/dancer. Well today it entered a whole new realm of interesting.

Jasmine Guy ____ is a boy. Oh, and he's a 3rd....but he's not related to anyone with the same name. His dad and granddad are Lloyds (Jr and Sr).

I can handle Jasmine being a boy...its the 3rd thats interesting....

I'm trying to find a name for the male protagonist in my book. He has the name of his father, grandfather and great grandfather, and the name will continue on to his son (or daughter in a roundabout way).

Just for fun, here are some names from my family tree.

TONS of names from various generations here... )

I got bored today and made a family tree of characters from a series of short stories (I've already written/I'm currently in the process of writing/I plan to write in the future).

First and middle names are here, but I will likely never use the middle names.

Margaret Rose and Robert Charles (born in 1930... based on this I guess you can figure out the approximate timeline; I don't feel like writing dates after each name) have five children: Robert Charles Jr. (nn Bob), Linda Kathleen, twins Hillary Donna and Janet Ellen, and Nicholas Martin (nn Nick).

Bob is married to Sarah-Jane; their kids are Robin Michael (married to Lucy), Christine Diana (nn Kristy), and Stephen Jeffrey (nn Steve).

Hillary and her husband Dennis have two girls, Kimberly Shannon and Adair Juliet.

Kimberly is dating a guy named Jason Scott, whose older sister Riley Caroline Caroline Reilly, who prefers to be called by her middle name (a family name) plays a prominent role in the stories.

Janet and her husband John Sheridan have three kids: Madeleine Siobhan (nn Lennie), Anastasia Rayanne (nn Stacy), and John Sheridan Jr.

Nick is married to a woman named Catherine Laurel.

What do you think?

Sib-sets

We talk a lot about the sib-sets we know, so what are the names + middle names of YOUR own sib-set? (Or the set of names of your children?)

Any particular themes? Letters? Trends particular to the year of birth?

Names of my sib-set to start us off:

Dale Steven (1978), Brendan Charles (1983), Martyna Rozalia (me! 1987), Kirstyn Kim (1991), Zachary John (1992)

Btw, we're a blended family hence the similar ages and age gaps, therefore no particular themes I think :)

Solana: "Sunlight", "Eastern Wind", Spanish/Latin.

Soraya "Princess"['of the stars'], Arabic & Farsi.

Both names are quite similar to me and I would never consider using both. I think I prefer 'Soraya' overall- I had a dream that I named a baby girl this in a dream I had a few years back and it was quite vivid. And I have a penchant for Arabic names. BUT I love the nickname 'Sol' from Solana.

So, I'm curious as to what people prefer? Which one do you like better?

My friend and I were joking around about what names we think are awful (of people we actually know) and I thought of this boy I know named...

Infiniti Forever.

I think it's the stupidest name, but my friend was all OMG I'M NAMING MY DAUGHTER INFINITI!

yeah. WDYT?

Also, in that same conversation I decided that I was going to name my first son Voldemort (nn Voldy). But since then I've decided that my new favorite name is Albus Severus. :D

(the HP names are just a joke of course, I would never give an innocent child those names...I think...well, maybe just as a middle name?)

Okay so I found a new name that I like that I think I want to add to my list, and my boyfriend likes it too. What do you think of

Reese (girl)?

Thoughts on the name Serena?

Today while I was waiting for my tire to be fixed, I was flipping through a magazine and came across a family with the following sib set:

Ishtar (f)
Ashur (m)
Aturina (f)
Nineveh (f)

Personally, I think they're all extremely ugly names. What makes it even more confusing is that, although Dad wasn't in the picture...mom and all the kids looked very much Caucasian, so I can't even dismiss it as being cultural names.

EDIT Thanks to google, I was able to find the following:

Ishtar is the Assyrian and Babylonian counterpart to the Sumerian Inanna
Ashur, the main god of Assyrian mythology
Nineveh was an important city in ancient Assyria

So, the only name I can't fit into the "theme" is Aturina

I've liked the name Abner for a girl since I was like 8.

Gavin

I was flipping through a couple of my favourite books when I was younger, when I came across one that had a character named Gavin.

I think it's a really great name, but I can only see it on a little boy (probably a little biased because of the book).

What do you guys think?
