Solana or Soraya?

Solana: "Sunlight", "Eastern Wind", Spanish/Latin.

Soraya:  "Princess"['of the stars'], Arabic & Farsi.

Both names are quite similar to me and I would never consider using both. I think I prefer 'Soraya' overall- I had a dream that I named a baby girl this in a dream I had a few years back and it was quite vivid. And I have a penchant for Arabic names. BUT I love the nickname 'Sol' from Solana.

So, I'm curious as to what people prefer? Which one do you like better?

I like Solana so much better. Probably because I know someone called Soraya (and she's a nice girl, but still).
I also like that Solana has 'sol' so obviously in its spelling =)
I recently saw a French show in which a character was called Solane, I think I like that best (So-lah-neh).

I went to a French school and there were a couple of girls with the name 'Solene' (accent on the first e, but my keyboard doesn't have them). I can't say I like it that much...as you can tell, I like girls names that end in the 'ah' sound. :)

'Secrets' (pronounced in a French way, of course ;)) It's a show that airs on Belgian television =)

I prefer Solana. Soraya reminds me of "psoriasis."

Although Solana reminds me of Valerie Solanas, the woman who shot Andy Warhol.

Hehe, I've heard the "psoriasis' association one before...not the best one, I guess. Is it really that obvious do you think?

Actually, my first thought was of Sora, from Kingdom Hearts. Which is weird, because I've never actually played that game. I suppose there's a chance people would not associate the name with psoriasis, if they weren't familiar with it

I haven't played that game either but I do quite like Sora. And Zora. But I'm Zahra, so no way that would ever work!

Yeah, I don't even know how common psoriasis is actually? I only know one person who has it.

yeah, similar in spelling...number of syllables, initial, etc... as in i can't see myself calling out to my daughters, 'soraya and solana, come here!'. way too matchy for my taste. :)

Both are gorgeous but I prefer Soraya even though the meaning of Solana is really beautiful. I generally love Arabic/Persian/Indian/Eastern names as well.

i love Solaris and Soleil. I think Soleil looks ugly, but it sounds so pretty.
