Hullo, I'm new. :)

We (my husband and I) decided a few months ago that if we were to ever have a girl, Arianna Georgia would wind up being a lovely name for her. Arianna for the way it sounds and Georgia, my husband's paternal grandmother's first name (her other two female cousins both have Eileen as their middle names, from their maternal great-grandmother). Turns out I'm recently pregnant, and we can't wait to slap it on that birth certificate in a few months. Opinions?

I did find it difficult to swallow at first, the two like-sounding sounds at the end of both names. Seeing as they both end with an "A", it bothered me just a little, but I've gotten used to the idea and think it's still a lovely name nonetheless (as just "Arianne", to me, seemed lacking).

We would, however, probably be stumped if it were to turn out to be a boy. Suggestions?

Our toddler's name, by the way, is Gregory Kael (pronounced KAYL or Kay-EL--depends on which side of the family is saying it: his or mine, heheh). Always Gregory, rarely Greg, but he'll decide that on his own soon enough. It took us ages just to slap those two names together to find something we were both comfortable and satisfied with.

OK, My baby naming guru goddesses,

I come to you, yet again, with another name in hand. This time my husband proposed it... and for the first time, I don't absolutely hate his suggestion (har).

Let me get your feedback on Isla.

So, I'm due in 3 weeks (probably less) and I was talking about names on a due date community.

It got me thinking about the name thing pretty hard, and I was all excited because I thought I'd settled on the name combos that really made me happy. My husband and I have only really discussed the name thing a couple of times and haven't managed to agree on anything much... but I think he's going to leave it up to me, with veto power if I pick something he really hates.

I was in bed later and it occurred to me then that the initials on those name combos that I liked are totally, utterly unacceptable.

S.H.T.

argh.

Now I have to either sacrifice the middle names, or come up with a new first name (the one I picked is unisex, with different middle names for boy/girl).

So we were talking about baby names this morning and, while he is dead set on this baby being a boy, we were trying to think of girl names (in his words) "just in case." I gave him my very short list of girl names (which I posted here last week, I think?) and Piper turned out to be his favourite, which is also pretty high on the list for me. However, I'm having a hell of a time trying to come up with a middle name that flows well with it. So I look to you once again :)

What would be a good middle name for Piper?

Good Evening All!

An eariler post got me thinking about diversity of opinions in this community. As a population sample, from what I've observed, the community appears remarkabley homogeneous. As someone with "different" taste in names, I must say that I've enjoyed the discussions this list has generated, even if it hasn't really impacted my name choices. I spent two years in undergrad and grad school studying names and perceptions of names. I thought I'd take a moment and outline my personal name "rules," which are pretty simple.

Part II

Names that made me laugh today:

I would love to hear about everyone else's "rules" when it comes to naming (what's classic has already been covered in previous posts----although if names were cars, any name still around after 20 years would be classic:)
