How do you feel about giving your children a name that is not from your own country/culture?

Thing is, I like a lot of English/French names, but I'd feel uncomfortable giving any of my future children one of those names because I'm 100% Dutch and I've got no connection to neither England nor France. The only option I see is to marry a Frenchman and emigrate to another country :D (the latter I am planning on doing anyway).

And just for fun, some of my favourite names. Click! )

Avery

I'm usually just a lurker, but a few posts back I noticed the unisex name list. I'm pregnant with my first baby and I had intended on Natalie for a girl (its due in January) and Avery for a boy. However, I never even thought Avery would be used as a girl's name. Then I went and checked the SSA list of 2007 popular baby names. Much to my shock, Avery was #52 on the girls' list and nowheres on the boys. Now, I'm wondering if my poor boy (if it's a boy that is) will be teased with a girls name? I always thought Avery was a strong name for a boy. Should I start looking more deeper for a boy's name that isn't "girly"? I'm sad.....

I just finished rereading Wuthering Heights for the first time in years and I was hoping someone could help me out with the name Hareton.

- Does anyone know what Hareton means? I can't find it anywhere!
- How do you pronounce it? Is it Hare·ton or Hare·e·ton?
- And what do you think some good middle names are for it?

Thank you very much for your help! ♥

I had a dream last night that I named a little girl "Bree-uh". I have never heard this before and am wondering how this would be spelled. Brea? Bria? Any ideas?

What names have you come across where siblings or couples you know have the male and female version of a name?

I have a friend called Jacky and his sister is Jackie (short for Jacqualine).

I once met a girl called Dominique and her brother was called Dominic

I know a lady called Kerry and her husband was called Carey (which everyone mispronounced as 'Kerry' so they pretty much had the same name)

I have two sons:  Easton Allen & Colson Dominic

Based on those two names, what do you think good girls and boys names would be for the sibset?  No, I am NOT pregnant, but I plan on having one more child eventually.  (And I don't really like Colson, I prefer Cole.  So Easton and Cole).

I am a big fan of "long first name, short middle name" (being Alexandra Jane myself).

My two favourite girl names are:

Madeline
and
Clementine

Middle name suggestions?

Well, my best friend of 17 years and her husband just found out they are having a boy! We all are excited for her and him.

She doesn't have many names picked out...yet. I told her about this group and I would put it out there for you all to help with suggestions! :)

Okay- their last names starts with a S and is on syllable. He is of the Jewish faith, Hungarian and Russian. She is of the Catholic faith, Irish and Italian. Looking for names from those or even names you feel strongly about too!

So, please...feel free to leave your suggestions. I will type them up in a list and send them to her.
