Does anyone have family naming traditions? In my stepfather's family, all the boys are given the middle name Edward (so that my stepfather, for instance, is Gordon Edward, and my stepbrother is Kevin Edward). In my mother's family, the tradition is to give the child three names: the first is either Mary or Joseph (we're Catholic), the second is the name of the child's godmother/father, and the third is the given name, so that I am Marie Aline Laurie.

Also, how would you pronounce Mairi?

Edit: How do you feel about surnames used as first names? I know there are a lot of common/popular names that are also surnames (ex: Taylor) - but what about names like Campbell?

We've all concluded that unique spellings are a bitch. But how many of you have fairly normal/average names that you are constantly having to spell for people?

I'm a Hannah, and people are constantly leaving of the last H, or taking out an N in the middle, or (my favorite) spelling it Hanmah. With all the Hannah's in the world who spell it like I do, it's annoying to have to correct so many people! I understand asking about whether or not there's an H on the end, but many people just assume it isn't.

Any one else have to deal with this?

A lot of people, a lot of names

For some reason I like the name Dresden for a girl or a boy.  I've asked some people about it before and they said it reminded them of the city Dresden that was bombed in World War II.  I still like the name though.  The problem I have with it is, the first time I heard it as a name was from a TV news show that talked about a family of white supremacists and they named one of their daughters Dresden.  I just can't get past that association.  I might use the name for maybe an animal, but I don't think I could use it on a child anymore.  What do you think?

This community reminded me of the fact that I used to keep a list of unusual or strange names when I was about 10. I searched my drawers and I found it! For some reason, those are all girl's names (apparently there aren't many crazy boy's names around, or they just bored me back then =P).

Here we go )

Some I like, some I hate, some are just crazy. Seriously, I didn't make them up! ;)
WDYT?

This is from the Australian comedy tv show The Chaser's War On Everything. The Citizen's Infringement Officer cracks down on inappropriate baby names and fines the mother. Warning for some bad language at the end. I found it very funny and thought you guys would enjoy it as well.

My best friend's sister is going to have her third child.
My best friend just told me about the two names that her sister and her brother-in-law are thinking about at the moment: Elias and Mirco.
I actually like Elias much more than Mirco, but my friend is totally in love with the name Mirco.
The future parents won't get influenced or are asking for help, I just wanted to hear your opinions about those two names. :)

My fiance's sister is having her 2nd child anyday now.

Another girl - Addison Mackenzie [granted, I don't know how she's spelling the names for this one].
The first one - Morgan Alexis

I like both names, but I prefer the new baby's name. I already have a Morgan and an Alexis in my own family [cousins].

His other sister's kid's names:
Elisa [pronounced E-Lisa lol] - girl
Daniel - boy
Jayden - girl
No idea what their middle names are.

My own family is full of common/classic names. I won't bore you with those. ;x
Though we did have 2 unusual/original spellings:
Karan [Karen] - my mom
Kaycee [Casey] - cousin
