Jan. 19th, 2008 07:58 pmThese past couple of weeks I have become obsessed with the name Strummer.
And I've recently decided that if I ever have a baby boy, i will call him Strummer. I know it sounds stupid, but I like it and at least it would be differnet, also it's in honor to Joe Strummer from The Clash - a band I have loved since a tot, cause mother and uncles used to blair the music loudly.
I mentioned this to my mother in the car today. And her first question was "What would it's middle name be?"
I hadn't put any thought into that at all. So I sat dumbfounded for a secon and decided that I'd like to use an Irish or Scottish middle name with it - because my family heritage is of Scottish and Irish.
So here are some thoughts:
Strummer Ewen
Strummer Boyd
Strummer Eoin
Strummer Tavis
Strummer Fynn
Strummer Miach
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Also feel free to tell me if you think the name is bogus. I'm open to eveyrones oppinion.

Date: 2008-01-20 02:00 am (UTC)But I quite hate the name John and Graham is sadly my biological fathers last name.

Date: 2008-01-20 03:51 pm (UTC)It could work as a middle name though.

Date: 2008-01-19 11:46 am (UTC)People generally shorten names when speaking to people and I think Strum sounds a bit odd.
But I like it a lot as a middle name.

Date: 2008-01-19 12:04 pm (UTC)If you want to honor Joe Strummer, why not Joe?

Date: 2008-01-19 12:06 pm (UTC)And I personally don't like using names that have already been used by other family members.

Date: 2008-01-19 02:46 pm (UTC)I would choose a middle name that is more "normal" to go with it, so it doesn't sound like you just stuck two made-up names together. This is what we did with my son. My husband wanted some off-the-wall middle names, but we ended up going with Lennon Daniel.
I say if you like Strummer, go for it! Who cares what people think? It's your kid!

Date: 2008-01-19 04:44 pm (UTC)I have a difficult time seeing the name Strummer Travis Lastname on a job application or a business card, but I think Travis Strummer or Finn Strummer (with a y it looks like a typo of Flynn) would work much better and I like both names.

Date: 2008-01-20 01:57 am (UTC)Also Tavis, is spelt as Tavis. And Fynn is spelt that way too (wasn't a typo on my half haha), they are both Irish names.

Date: 2008-01-19 05:07 pm (UTC)But it's meaning sounds dopey, the sounds themselves get stuck together in the mouth, and just... it rhymes with Hummer and Bummer and nothing good.
I can't possibly imagine a middle name "right" for it, since anything you came up with to balance it would probably be better in my eyes and thus bump Strummer to middle name status.

Date: 2008-01-20 05:14 am (UTC)That said, I like Strummer Boyd and Strummer Fynn for middle names. I like Flynn even better.
What about naming your kid Clash? I like it better than Strummer. You could even call him "The Clash".
