Jan. 1st, 2008 08:17 pmI was having a conversation with my mom earlier about baby names, and the names I liked when I was a little kid. I've always had a love/hate relationship with my name (Lindsay Rebecca), so when I was about six, and again at fourteen, I tried to convince my mom to let me change it. When I was six, I wanted to be Jasmine, like from Aladdin, and when I was fourteen, I wanted to change it to Tallulah, like the character in Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood.
Thankfully, as my mother and I both agreed, I outgrew both of those stages several years ago, and I've come to accept that while my name isn't the best, I do like it, and it does fit me.
Currently my two favorite names for girls are Harriet and Louisa; I made the mistake of telling my mom this, and now she keeps making comments about the names (mostly Harriet, although she hates Louisa, too). Now, pleasing my mom isn't exactly high on my list of priorities and if she hates the name, I don't really care. I won't be having kids for a while anyway, and maybe she'll either learn to love the names or I'll change my mind before I do. But I was just wondering...
Did any of you have family members totally cringe when they heard the names you wanted to use? Did you use it anyway? Have they grown to accept it, or do they still make comments even after the baby is born?
Also, what crazy, off the wall names did you like when you were a child that you laugh about now?
