So, I don't know if other religions have an equivalent of this or not, but, in Roman Catholicism, when a person is confirmed, he or she is required to chose a confirmation name. The confirmation name was once supposed to be the name of a saint or biblical person for whom the confirmand has an affinity, but they've started letting people use their own names if they don't want a new name. I went through confirmation in eleventh grade and, of course, wanted to pick a new name for myself. I almost picked Gemma, but ended up going with Veronica, officially because I liked her story and Veronica was my great-grandmother's middle name, and unofficially because I was in love with Veronica Mars.

So, did anyone else here have to pick out a confirmation name, or something of the like?

Yep. I have a confirmation name (I'm also Roman Catholic)

I made confirmation when I was 12 year old and I chose the name Catherine.

Haha, if I were Catholic and had been confirmed, I absolutely would have chosen my confirmation name based on reasoning like yours.

My dad wanted his to be Larry, because there was a cool kid in his class named that.
I have a friend who got to pick two names (no idea how).
I would have chosen Mary (after a family member) but I never got confirmed.

I'm not religious, but this reminds me of the foreign language classes at my school where you have to pick a name in that language for the class. I'm taking Hebrew and my Hebrew name is Shoshanna.

Mine is Bridget Elizabeth.

My mom kept telling me to pick Agatha because I was flat chested and St. Agatha had her breasts cut off. My mom is so hilarious.

I'm not religious, but if I was choosing a confirmation name I'd choose
St Cecilia, she's something to do with music right? Anyway, pretty name.
There's also a St Sophie Madeleine, and since i'm already Sophie then adding the Madeleine would be easy.

haha i'm so far from Roman Catholic though.

Mine's Martha, which in retrospect is a really awful name, but I thought it was so beautiful then (I didn't pick it because of the saint, at all).

I am Roman Catholic, and my Confirmation name is Joan after Joan of Arc.

I wish I had chosen Valentine (even though it is a boy..!)

My brother chose Francis of Assissi, and I think my sister also chose Joan. My mother chose Joan (it is kind of a tradition I think) and my Grandfather chose Simon Peter.

The Hebrew name my parents chose for me is Gila Miriam...I really hate it. My cousin's is really really nice though, it's Avra Sura.

I'm not Catholic, but when my friend was going through confirmation, I decided that I would have picked Joan, because I am totally obsessed with Joan of Arc.

My friends' confirmation names are (that I know off the top of my head):
Patrick Ian Michael
Brandi Marie Nicolle
Leah Elizabeth Gabrielle

Oh, and I know a kid named Max whose Hebrew name is Moses. I've always thought it was cool, haha.

I was raised pretty secularly and became religious in adulthood.

My Hebrew name - and the name I now go by on a day-to-day level - is a variation of the middle name my mother gave me, which is a version of the name my late grandmother (may her memory be for a blessing) had and it's meaning (GD's Oath) really resonates for me.

She was Betty Lou, My middle name is Elizabeth, I now go by Elisheva. I quite like the journey both the name, and myself, have taken :)

My mum did confirmation when she was about 10, she picked Theresa.
She says she picked it because firstly she really liked the name, and secondly she had a friend called Theresa who lived down the road from her. Quite cute.

I haven't been confirmed so I don't have one. Though like someone said in a previous comment, in my French class at school we picked French names. My French name was Martine (because my real name is Martyna. Easy transition!)

My confirmation name is Lucy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Lucy) because I like the name and eyes gouging OMG so gross. I love the fact that the saint with my first name (Christina) is the patron saint of the mentally ill.

My SO got screwed. In the church where he was confirmed, the priest picked one name for the boys and one name for the girls.
