I'm thinking of naming any daughters of mine after their great grandmas [ my grandmothers]. Not first names, but middle names. So that'd be Jeanne and Dolores. Jeanne (my Mom's side) is nice, but I really love Dolores for a middle name. It is kinda granny-ish... but she was my grandma, so... o.o...

What do you think?

Also, I was searching babynames.com for fun, and I came across the name Hummer. Who would name their baby Hummer?!

Haha, my parents toyed briefly with the idea of naming me after my grandmothers, but they quickly changed their minds (the idea of having a child carrying a name such as Myrtle Burl bothered them). Jeanne (albeit spelled Jean) is one of my top names, and Dolores is also quite lovely...Hummer on the other hand? What were they thinking?

I'm pretty sure Jeanne is an alternate spelling of the name pronounced Jeen-ee, but I could be wrong.

Any Jeanne I've ever met, including my Aunt and myself, pronounce it Jean. Jeannie can be a nickname, though.

any Jeanne i've ever met is said as "Jean-ee"... kind of like every Renee i've met is said like Renée ("Reh-nay"), except my friend's mother is Renee said like "Ree-nee."

sometimes it is probably personal preference, i guess.

When I was little, I hated the name Renee, because I thought it was pronounced "ree-nee." "Ree-nee Russo, what the hell kind of name is that?"

My middle name is Jeanne, pronounced Jean. It's the French spelling of Jean.

I think Dolores could totally work with the right first name pairing, and if it means a lot to you, I say go for it:) Same with Jeanne. I plan on naming one of my daughters after my grandmother -- her middle name will be Margaret.

Under the circumstances Dolores as a middle name is fine but otherwise, I dislike it.

No one in their right mind would name their child Hummer.

Hummer...
I know people named Blaze, Bullet [brother named Shell, sister named Beebee or however you would spell BB], Caramel, and Rebel...
I guess you just never know what will come out next.

Hummer is terrible! It's like, "Hey, my name's Blowjob, nice to meet you."

Dolores could make a really nice middle name.

My maternal grandmother's name is Jean. I wouldn't be against using it, either. I have a friend named Sarah Jeanne, I think it's a very cute name.
