I feel like I've beat this topic to death, but I'm slightly neurotic, so I'll beat it to death with my own shoe.

[Poll #1105569]

Also, can anyone think of some names that would sound good with Lola as a middle name?

My thoughts exactly.
I like Lola, I like Elizabeth, I really don't see how you can get one out of the other, but then again...I don't understand Libby either, for example.

i agree.. ^^

although, if you like both names, why don't you just use both?

Elizabeth Lola
Lola Elizabeth (i think this sounds best)

lol, when I was reading the poll I definitely didn't think those were the actual responses...seemed to me like they're just representations of what might go through the person's head, like, "[oblivious to anything weird, so reponse!]" and "[wtf]"

I'm planning a daughter Anne called Hannah, so I say you can do anything you want. If you can't get cool with getting Lola from Elizabeth, name her Elizabeth Charlotte (Lola is a nickname for Charlotte).

I have to imagine that if a child is called Lola by her parents, she'll introduce herself as Lola, and the only time anyone will think about the fact that her real name is Elizabeth is when a substitute teacher calls roll. (It'd be like a fun trivia fact. "Oh, your name is Elizabeth? Wow, I didn't know that!")

I prefer Elizabeth with the nickname of Lola to just naming her Lola. Most of the people I know with names that have a bazillion nicknames (Alexandra, Katherine, Elizabeth, etc) are thankful for it, because they can choose what to be called by people. Also, to me naming someone Lola is like naming them Lizzie, because it sounds very nickname-y.

Wow, this post is long :P

Everything she said, I agree with.

My cousin's baby is Eve Lola but I don't think it flows all that well. It sounds ok when you say it with the surname though.

I wouldn't think much of how Lola came from Elizabeth. Nick names can come from anywhere. It might even be a middle name. If someone told me that's what they go by, I wouldn't even think to question it - that's just their name.

I had a friend named Sarah, that everyone called Cat, and a friend named Lisa, who goes by Brin. I don't know where either name came from, but I just go with it. Both these people were met in college though. I can see where it might be more difficult for a young kid in school.

As an Elizabeth, I've found that I must introduce myself as the nickname I want to be called, rather than Elizabeth, or people with either call me Elizabeth, or will use some other nickname that I'd prefer they didn't.

So, instead of introducing her as Elizabeth-please-call-me-Lola, it'd be better to just say, "Hello, I'm Lola," and let the formal name come up when/if necessary.

i think i would be thrown off if someone introduced themselves to me in that way. a simple "hi, i'm lola" would do. i know a lot of people who introduce themselves as the nick name they go by and other people accept it.
