Date: 2007-12-09 11:59 pm (UTC)I see absolutely no appeal in putting medieval profession names on little boys or little girls. Cooper, Carter, Hunter, Chandler, Harper, etc. etc. etc.
Names of this sort are very popular now and are going to be very dated, not classics.
It is a surname and if it must be a first name, a masculine one. I have a surname/masculine name as a first name myself. I have spent most of my life telling people I'm not a boy; despite the fact that my name is far more common on girls now, people over a certain age assume I'm a boy. It's just plain annoying.
It's not pretty. It doesn't sound strong. It doesn't have much of an interesting history.
It has one very strong pop culture reference. I think a girl would get sick of saying her name to people and having everyone over a certain age ask, "Like on Friends?"
About the only positive thing I can say about it is that it's easy to spell.
Nicole is nice. You don't meet a lot of Nicoles these days.

Date: 2007-12-09 09:42 pm (UTC)also, how do you say Mayer? i say it like the singer, John Mayer. like May-er, or how you'd say Mayor, sort of. i'm asking because someone once said that they pronounce it more like Meyer (My-er). i like Chandler 'May-er', but not Chandler 'My-er' lol.

Date: 2007-12-09 09:47 pm (UTC)we say May-er, like John
however, hubby's family is from Belgium and it was originally pronounced My-er, like Oscar & his meat! and it's often mispronounced now, but oh well!
