I think it's horrible for a girl. There's nothing remotely feminine about it.

I never watched Friends, but seeing the names makes me think chandelier. What does Chandler even mean?

I once knew a Chandler. She'd probably be about 12 now. I think it's cute. And Chandler Nicole Mayer flows well. The double "er" doesn't sound too bad.

Nope, Chandler is a boys name to me.
And I'm not really crazy about Chandler anyway.

It's bad on boys, worse on girls. It totally falls into the trend of giving girls boys' names, and it just sounds horrible. There aren't even any good nicknames... just 'Chand' or 'Chandie'. Plus, everyone will just think 'Friends'. In my opinion, it's not a name that should ever be given to a girl.

I have an 8 year old boy cousin named Chandler, so I think of him. I don't hate it on girls, though. I think the name sounds pretty cute. =)

Don't like it as a boys name, like it even less as a girls...

Also it's a surname, and that's my first image.

Not very fond of the combo. I can see it working, but Chandler seems very trendy and Nicole seems very filler, unless you have a specific reason for choosing it. If you really wanted to go for Chandler and for a version of Nicole, I would use Nicolette, or Nicoline, or Nicola.

i think it's fine as a girls name.. and, although i'm not fond of Nicole, it still flows well.. and i don't think you have to limit yourself to just Chand or Chandie.. other possible nicknames for Chandler Nicole are:

Andie/Andy
Anders
Chloe
Coley

i agree.. i don't like the name Nicole.. I was going to suggest Noelle.. Nicolette is beautiful, too!

i like it, you could call her Andie.

also, how do you say Mayer? i say it like the singer, John Mayer. like May-er, or how you'd say Mayor, sort of. i'm asking because someone once said that they pronounce it more like Meyer (My-er). i like Chandler 'May-er', but not Chandler 'My-er' lol.

I LOVE the name Chandler for a girl. I used to take dance with a girl named Chandler. We didn't have any decent nick names for her, lol, they were all slightly ridiculous. (channie, Chan chan, etc)

i always say it like John Mayer because i grew up around a bunch of families with the last names Myer & Meyers. so, to me, it's a totally different name... even though, really, i guess it's not lol.

The most popular it ever got was 348, in 1993 (which I wouldn't call VERY popular). That same year it was 357 for boys- pretty similar. In 1992 it was 409 for boys, 541 for girls. In the mid to late 90s, it went up for boys and down for girls. So it was bigger on boys than girls well before Friends, during, and after (with the exception of just one or two years). It didn't even make the top 1000 for girls before 1992, and has been in the top 1000 for boys since the 60s (on and off)

I see absolutely no appeal in putting medieval profession names on little boys or little girls. Cooper, Carter, Hunter, Chandler, Harper, etc. etc. etc.

Names of this sort are very popular now and are going to be very dated, not classics.

It is a surname and if it must be a first name, a masculine one. I have a surname/masculine name as a first name myself. I have spent most of my life telling people I'm not a boy; despite the fact that my name is far more common on girls now, people over a certain age assume I'm a boy. It's just plain annoying.

It's not pretty. It doesn't sound strong. It doesn't have much of an interesting history.

It has one very strong pop culture reference. I think a girl would get sick of saying her name to people and having everyone over a certain age ask, "Like on Friends?"

About the only positive thing I can say about it is that it's easy to spell.

Nicole is nice. You don't meet a lot of Nicoles these days.

There was a character in the movie Prince of Tides - one of the daughters. Her name was Chandler. That movie was like 1990-ish.

Chandler for a girl is perfectly acceptable. Like I said in an above comment, one of the little girls in the movie Prince of Tides was called Chandler. My husband had an 8th grade student named Chandler (girl). And I personally find it very nice on a girl.

I definitely think that every time I met this girl, I would be thinking that line "Chandler's a girl! Chandler's a girl!" It would be extremely distracting.

Thats my cat's name so sorry I'm a bit biased!
But I just don't see it suiting a girl.

My friend has a female friend named Chandler. And I know a girl named Channing who uses the nickname Channie sometimes, so that could work for Chandler too.

I think it's a nice name.

And oddly enough, chandelier means candle holder.

At least the ch is pronounced differently in Chandler vs. chandelier.

The double 'er' sounds okay when saying the entire name, but just Chandler Mayer sounds a little iffy to me. Nickname, maybe?

You could use Chandra instead, maybe, to avoid the double "er". I prefer Nichole to Nicole, but either works.
