The kids I babysit (Sophie May and Ashley Joseph for the record) have a cute dog toy called Caesar. The kids are pretty worldly and have lived all over Europe and apparently came up with the name themselves, which is cool.
On second thoughts, their second favourite toy is called Rainbow Doggy :P
When I was small I had a bear I named Baxter and a bigger bear called Boris, and a dolphin statue I called Dolphy. Pretty clear-cut names.
PETS
I also named my dog Zac (short for Zachary Blue) as a tribute to my favourite band at that time (Hanson ha. C'mon, I was ten. I didn't even like Zac Hanson. Taylor all the way!)
And going back even further, we had a peacock called Bert, a brown hamster called Blacky and a white hamster called Goldy, Rastus the rooster and fish called Oliver and Cedric.
What did you call your toys and/or pets?

Date: 2007-12-05 01:02 am (UTC)Cats: Spencer (I named him), Chaucer (I...might have. I don't remember. We got both cats when I was three-four), Tigger (named him), Mr. Thomas O'Malley the Alley Cat (named him and he went by O'Malley for short) and Mocha (mother named her).
We have birds, named Lukas and Lisa.
If I get a guide dog, I'm naming it Lief if it's a boy. I don't know about a female name yet.
Our hamster was named Sophia until we realized it was a boy and then we named it Robert Sophia, after the priest in our town...
I don't recall the names of my fish, except for Snow White and Anna, which were my two first fish (I was three, and Anna lived until I was eight, which was extremely long-lived for a feeder goldfish).
I had a doll named Alexandra, after my brother Alexander. My current stuffed animals are named "Sharky" (big giant shark), "Poly" (Mr. Polar Q. Bear, who is, you guessed it, a polar bear), "Pinky" (who I call a flamingo though it's really an ostrich) and Charizard, who...is a Charizard.
My taste in pet names tends to run to the elaborate/old-fashioned side, while my test in toy names tends to run to...naming them what they are.

Date: 2007-12-05 01:20 am (UTC)My dad named our first one - the one who is still alive - Andorra after the country and then mine was named Madeline.
I named both of my cats, though: Jingle Bells and Cowboy.

Date: 2007-12-05 01:31 am (UTC)Great Pyrenees have tons of hair, but they are loveable. And Jake's fairly the same, just smaller.
It's not that we tend towards large dogs, it's more that we always wanted to have one small dog and one large dog at a time, and the large dogs died faster than the smaller ones did... our family does not have a good track record with large dogs.

Date: 2007-12-05 01:15 am (UTC)My only pet was a really tiny fish that I named Crystal Light because it was the name of Karen's fish in the Baby-sitters Little Sister series. I don't think I realized that it was also a brand of lemonade at the time.
Also, is Ashley Joseph a boy or a girl?

Gia (cat)
Gidget (guinea pig)
Patty (hamster)
Cherry (guinea pig)
Dog (cat) Her name didn't really stick, and I was just being cheeky anyway, so.
Tod (dog)
Scout (dog)
I didn't really name my toys but I have named my computers over the years. My first computer was some old Apple thing from like the 80s that I called Gertie, then I had a Windows 95 piece of junk that we bought used (called it Marge after the lady we got it from), and now I have a Windows XP thing from Walmart that I call Flora.
Except for Dog, Tod, and Scout, I came up with all of those names when I was 6-13 years old.

Date: 2007-12-05 01:39 am (UTC)I have a 5 year old fish named Stevie, after Stevie Nicks. I also had fish named Christine and Lindsey (named after Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham), but those fish died the day after I got them. When I was little, my fish had boring names like Goldie, Shark, and Crystal.
I also have a cat named Precious, after the nurse monkey on the show Passions.
Toys:
I remember I had a white bear in red pants and a checkered shirt named Charlie (same name as my grandpa; I'm guessing I gave the bear that name because its clothes reminded me of my grandpa's).
There was also a bear named Chester but I don't remember what it looked like.
There were two matching pink and blue terrycloth animals named Mamie and Curly; I think one was a bear and one a dog, maybe.
I had a bunch of other stuffed animals but I don't remember their names.
I had a doll named Linda, but two other dolls that I don't think I named.
I had Barbie dolls, but I didn't give them unique names, except for the brown haired one, which I called Randi.
When I was 10, I got an American Girl doll that I called Caitlin, and another one (the Kit doll, but I changed her name and dressed her in 'today' clothes) whose name I don't remember (I think it might have been Devon).

Date: 2007-12-05 03:37 am (UTC)Ashley - doll came with the name and the only time I kept a pre-provided name
Samantha - after my great aunt's dog...I just thought it was the coolest name at the time
I still have four bears that I keep out:
Bear - the one I sleep with. My friend tried to name him Stumpy, but it didn't stick
Pansy - after the character in Harry Potter
Austin - he's wearing a University of Texas shirt
Tykin - I just got him not very long ago and couldn't come up with a name, so he is named after my potential first son.
Pets, I've had a lot.
Dogs:
Bambi - She died on the last day of my 5th grade year. I didn't name her. I assume my sister or mother did.
Lori - My sister named her.
Pepper - My mom named her.
Maddie - I named her.
Hamsters:
Sadie Jade - I named her/him. No one really knows what sex it was.
Ambrosius - My sister named her.
Little Bear - I named him. He was a teddy bear hamster...original.
Sir Didymus - My sister named him.
Guinea Pigs:
Daemon - I named him. He was albino and looked like a demon.
Ludo - Sister named him.
Peepi - I named her after an Invader Zim character.
Gizmo - Sister named her.
Princess - I named her.
Mario - Group name. Toned down the effect of Princess. Haha.
Sprocket - My boyfriend named him. He was always called Baby Boy, though. He was our last guinea pig baby before we gave them all away. =\
Cats (I wasn't allowed to have cats because my dad is allergic, but my neighbor/best friend at the time had a cat who had 3 kittens, and each of us and my other best friend claimed one):
Oreo - The other two were M&M and Skittle, I believe. He was also, naturally, black and white.

My dolls are all stored away in a suitcase now, with their names on little tags around their wrists so I don't forget in the future! hehe. All my Barbie dolls were either called Barbie, or the name they came with on the box.
--Soft toys--
Bubbits (little white bear I adored when I was three)
Bluey (a bear I was given when I was born that was...blue. He's 20 years old now and still sits on my bed)
Mandy (a dark pink bear I was given when I was born, named after the person who gave her to me, she still sits on my bed too)
I had heaps of other soft toys that I named but my favourite were those three.

Date: 2007-12-06 01:12 am (UTC)Luckily I haven't named my children I.V. or morphine or bedpan or some such.
*named by my mom= dunno why she named it that
More or less in order--
Pets:
Patches-- dog, named by my mom
Mickey-- cat named by my mom
Herman-- dog named by my mom
Columbus-- cat, after Columbus, OH
Whisk, nn Whiskey-- cat, named such because Whisk gets out ring around the collar and he was black with a white ring around his neck. Our neighbor/babysitter had a dog named Brandy. :/
Silvertooth- a silver goldfish
Bunnicula-- a bunny, after the vampire bunny books
Jenny-- a hamster, just cause
Hammy-- a hamster.. hello
Sammy-- Actually Sam; I was singing Green Eggs and Ham to my brother's kitten while we were still at the animal shelter and it stuck.
Minnie-- cat, named after Mickey
Spud-- named by the veternarian who gave him to us after he patched the poor pup up. He looked like Spuds McKenzie.
Jenny-- Princess Sparkle Jenny, a purebred terrier, named already
Maggie-- a dog who just looked like a Maggie.
Sherman-- a kitty named after Sherman, TX
C.C.-- Copy Cat, a kitty named by the employees of a wannabe Kinkos that took her in after he mother and litter-mates were killed by cars.
Belladonna-- cat, named by me.. I wanted to name her Bella and her sister Donna.
Pandora-- the cat would-be Donna. My mom named ther, thoguht it went well with Belladonna.
Mr. Bunn-- a bunny named after the bunny in Calvin and Hobbes, I believe.
My current pets:
Inanna and Persephone: sister cats; we came up with one name and then decided to make both of them goddesses of the underworld. Inanna is a calico and persephone is black, which I think is fitting. NNs are: Nana(nah-nah), Nana-bones, Bones(don't ask), Inanna Pussington, Nanakins; Perse, Perseph, Percy, Percikins
Zeus-- our big boy, he was just a tiny little guy when I found him. He's a somewhat dark flame-point siamese (they're normally lighter and more orangey.. his flame point markings almost look seal-point, we wonder if he's a cross). His markings go well with the whole lightening-bolt thing :). We wanted to go with a boy-god for him and I really wanted Pazuzu and my partner wanted Hermes, so we settled on Zeus. We're happy we did; it fits him. NNs- Zeus Peus, Zooey, Zoo, Zooperdoo, Deus. Middle name Asmodeus-- a Judaic demon ; I found him in front of a synagogue.
Nibbler-- the tiniest of the lot, this one's a little moo-cat we found living in our garage. We thought "What goes better with the gods than Nibbler?" ;) For good measure, her mn is Freya. NNs-- Nibs, Nibbleton, Nibblepuss, Niblonian, Neblina.
! :D
