What do you think of Madalina? It's the romanian version of Madeline.

Other variants:
Madeleine = french
Maddalena = italian
Madalena = portuguese

Which one/s do you like best?

I don't really like Madalina...I think mainly because I'm not a fan of names that end in -a =P
I like Madeleine best =)

But aren't they pronounced differently?

I absolutely adore that name and it is in our top 3 for girls. So far everyone I've run it by is not a fan. I prefer Maddalena, as we are of Italian descent. :)

Madalina is gorgeous. But I don't think I'd ever use it, since I'm not Romanian/of Romanian decent.

If I had to choose I'd do Madeleine, but I detest the nn Maddy, so I'd probably never use it.

I like the Italian version best! =)

and Madeline is fine too, though I don't understand why everyone has such a strong feeling towards it!

I love it! I like it spelled Madelina. I also love Madeleine.

Madeline is starting to become one of my absolute favorite names. I just dislike the nickname Maddy.

Of those, I only like Madeline (and only if it's pronounced Madelyn, not Madel-eye-n.) But I do really like the name Madeline :).

Because Caroline is often (not always, but often) l-eye-n versus Carolyn which is clearly lyn :). When my friend named her baby Madeline, I had to ask which way it was pronounced (lyn) :).

I don't understand what you mean, hehe. How would it be pronounced l-eye-n for Caroline, but couldn't be for Madeline, hehe. They're both spelled line :). But I agree, it's WAY more commonly madelyn (pronounciation, not spelling) than l-eye-n. I just like to check, because while I think Madelyn is adorable, I think Madel-eye-n is awful :). Granted, I far prefer Carolyn to Caroline as well :).

I read it as mad-e (soft e. almost like uh)-lyn. Do you read it as madlyn like the e isn't there?

Also, I think there was a children's book in which the child was named Madel-eye-n. I can't remember how it was spelled, though, I just remember having it read to me :).

The French pronunciation of Madeleine is actually more like Mad-uh-lehn, not Mad-uh-lyn.

How is Madeleine pronounced? Like MAD-ah-lyn or MAD-ah-line?

I used to like Madeline but then I realized it's like the words 'made' and 'line' put together, so now I like Madeleine much better.

I'm definitely a Madeleine fan! It's my name in French class, and one of my top 5 favourites (Madeleine Hermione).
