Yes, White Oleander, but not Harry Potter (not really fond of those books, but I do know the character). The other was Holy Fools, but Joanne Harris. :)
Astrid is nice enough but starts with "Ass". In America, that's a problem.
Fleur is pretty, but these days inextricably linked to Harry Potter. Also, there may be pronunciation issues, because the sound necessary to pronounce it correctly isn't an English-speaking sound. French only. That's not to say it's impossible to learn, but I think you'd hear a lot of "Floo-er", "Floor", "Flurr", etc. I don't even know how to write out the correct pronunciation in English phonetics, but it's close to a combination of all of the above.
I like Astrid a lot, and I would consider using it even though it could get teased.
Fleur is a bit much for me. It is pretty, but it sounds too much like flower in English. It seems like a name someone would use it they only knew one word of French - a cognate at that.
Astrid is one of my most favourite names =) (yes, White Oleander is also one of my favourite books =P) I like Fleur too, but it's a little too feminine for my taste and quite common here =)
being from german-speaking europe, astrid sounds ****extremely*** 70's to me. i dont like it. fleur is cute even though its one of those things where you wonder how it would work on a grown woman who might want a career... am i thinking too far ahead? :]
I have an extremely good friend called Astrid so I love it for its good associations, but I think I also like it a lot in its own right.
As for Fleur, I'm not a huge fan. It's not that I think it's "too much" (Flora is one of my all time favourite names), but for the lovely meaning it has, it just doesn't have a pretty enough sound to English speakers, at least. I don't know.
I like the idea of Astrid as a name, but I don't actually like the way it sounds.
I love the name Fleur, it's one of my favorite F names for a girl. I never knew it was a Harry Potter name. I hate to say it, but that atually lowers my opinion of it...
I like Astrid. I started a book with the main character called Astrid (but she wasn't exciting enough for me to continue lol).
As for Fleur...not that keen. It was the name of my cousin's ex, not that I knew her but i heard the name a lot so associate with her (even though it wasn't her real name). and of course the harry potter association.
