[identity profile] ex-bluebonn.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
EDIT: I found the following name on the list for 2002 (w/ only one instance of it being used - obviously). WTH.
2117ABYGAELLEXXXXXXXXXXX1

I found this interesting web site, which lists all of the baby names in Quebec for the past couple of years or so.  Their popularity is determined by their usage frequency, and the list includes something like 8000 names in total.  Lea was the most popular girl's name in 2006 - it was used 540 times in the province.  Names that were only used once include Zoeylynn, Patsy, and Rose V.  (Yes, Rose V.  Just V.)

Here are the top 50 girls' names as well as a link to the site.

The source (and boys' names) can be found here.  It's in French, but the link is easy enough to spot midway down the page - "banque de prénoms".  My name is Laurie, which isn't usually on Top XXX lists, so it was interesting to find it here.

I'm surprised Oceane is so popular! I don't like it at all, actually.
I do like Florence (a lot), Audrey and I've been starting to like Mélodie lately =)

And about that other name...hm...I know I should pronounce it like Abigail (I suppose), but when I see that, I want to say 'Abby-gah-elle' ;)

Huh? Wow, that's odd. I thought the 'xxxxx' were supposed to replace the surname, or something. I think it's a print error though. I can't imagine why anyone would add 'xxxxx' on the end of a name =P

I like most of the names, with the exception of Florence, bc that sounds to me like an old lady...then again, I don't know what the trends among French names are (for example, I'm Polish, so I know that in America, Agnes isn't a very popular name, but in Poland, Agnieszka is still considered a cute, viable name for baby girls, so...)

Just a note: the site is also available in English. Oddly enough, you click on the word "English" in the top right corner.

Since Quebec is technically part of Canada, English is also an official language.

Abygaelle? Wow. Here I was thinking I'd seen the worst spelling for my favourite name (Which was probably Abbergale) but apparently not!
