Forgive me if this has been asked before, I don't recall seeing it, but what could Lola be a nick name for?

The first thing that came to mind was Lolita, but I doubt anyone names their kid that nowadays...

Isn't that backwards? I mean, the "ita" or "ito" suffix is a diminutive; a girl named Lola would be called Lolita as a child.

Yeah, calling a girl named Lola "Lolita" would be like calling a girl named Elizabeth "Lizzie".

Well, in the book, Lolita was just a nn; the girl's name was really Dolores...

Yeah, I didn't want to be too technical, but in the Elizabeth metaphor, Elizabeth is Dolores, Liz (or Beth) is Lola, and Lizzie (or Bethie) is Lolita.

Traditionally, Lola is a nickname for the Spanish name Dolores. Considering that the only similarities that the two names have is the 'lo' part, though, I think that anything with 'lo' in it could work.

Carlot(t)a
Charlotte
Consuelo
Dolores
Eloise
Louisa
Louise
Lourdes
Paloma
Penelope
Willow

I think Lindsay Lohan also played a character whose full name was Mary Elizabeth but went by Lola. No idea how that works, though.

Hahaha, I know a girl called Lola, and she's lovely, but all I can do is hum that song when someone says her name!
