At first glance, is Rowan - Girl or Boy?

Curious if it's been too feminized to be usable on a boy.

I automatically think 'boy', but maybe that's cuz the whole rhyming thing makes me think of Ronan... warriors. XD

I don't even think, "Hey, that's a name!" when I hear it. But I prefer it on boys.

Girl.
Not particularly fond of the name, though, but I do think girl.

I like it.. and I think of it as a boy's name. I don't recall ever hearing of a girl named Rowan... but that's just me.

lol is there such a thing as too much Anne Rice? Maybe when you can quote passages you should ease up a bit...maybe? ;)

I used to work with one. But she called herself Becky and it only came out that she wasn't a Rebecca when her first payslip arrived. (IOW, she didn't use it, and in fact hated it with a passion!)

I think girl automatically, probably because of Brooke Shields.

I think girl because of her too.

Despite Mr. Bean/Blackadder, I really do prefer it on girls. I spell it Roan for a boy.

How do you pronounce Rowan? I pn it Ro-an.

Ha! I just realized that I pn it differently for boys than I do girls. Boys I pronounce it like above, but girls I pn Ro-wan/Ro-when.

Wow, it seems like everyone is saying boy. Rowan, to me, is absolutely absolutely a girl's name. :)

Boy
I know two Rowans IRL, one of each gender. But statistically it's more common as a male name, and it's one of my fave boys names, so yeah. :)

in the american context i would think girl, in gaelic/scottish/uk context i would think boy.

Girl.
(Probably because I know a girl called Rowan).

I personally only know girls called Rowan but I like it better on a boy. It reminds me of Rowan Atkinson XD.

Girl, but that's because of Anne Rice. And it's not a positive connotation for me, though it is pretty.

I think it's unisex, kind of like Casey or Jamie, probably because I have met an assortment of male/female/genderqueer Rowans.

I like it on a boy but spelt Rohan..I pronounced practically the same

my grammar sucks. I meant to say that I pronounce them both as Row-en with not much emphasis on the 'e'.
