Is there anyone in your life, past or present that you would name a child after?

I am named after my mom's best friend, and I treasure the name so much. My Name's Viviana btw lol.

I plan on using Adrienne (after my best friend), Margaret (after my grandma), Michael (after my brother), Renee (it's my mom's middle name), Timothy (after my dad), Lilah (a variation of my friend's middle name, Lil), Richard (after a family friend), Elizabeth (after my late godmother whose name was Beth), all as middle names.

I have a lot of potential names to use after someone. Just about all of my middle names are in honor of someone else. My number one girl's name is Kaylea Renee' which is my mom's middle name (Kay), my older sister's middle name (Lea), and my middle name (Renee') put together. My other girl middle names on my list are Belle (my niece Annabelle), Ann (my grandmother, Cheryl Ann, and favorite cousin, Katie Ann), Kate (my best friend Kati), Terryn (my other best friend Theresa who has always gone by Terr.) For my boy's middle names I have Douglas (my boyfriend Justin Douglas and his dad's first name is Douglas), Gene (my father Patrick Eugene), Willam (not William, after my grandfather William Earl), James (my cousin James William), Kaleb (my boyfriend's best friend Caleb), Austin (my boyfriend's brother Austin Matthew who goes by Matthew), Stefan (my boyfriend's other brother), and Robert (my uncle.) I also have Bradon as a first name after both my cousin and my boyfriend's cousin Brandon.

Wow. That is an insanely long list. Even longer than I expected. I do try and change the names somehow so they're more original to that child and not an exact name, but some of them are exact because I haven't found a variation I like better.

I wanted to name my son after my grandfather, Gérard. He passed away in 2000.
However, my grandmother said that if any of us (the grandkids) were to name our kids after him, she would take it as a very big insult and a slap in the face. So of course I'm going to respect her wishes.

Finally I opted to use his middle name (Olivier) as our son's middle name. She never said anything about that, so I think it's okay with her. The little man is due in March.

Why would she be upset about that?

I have no idea, but if you knew my grandma, you knew it would be best to do what she says :P

Possibly the constant reminder that the love of her life, the father of her children, the amazing grandfather to her grandchildren, is gone and she will never see him again. I don't know.

ZOMG! Sailor Uranus!!

Moving on.

I really don't like the idea of naming someone after someone else. But if I were forced to relinquish my dearly-loved boy names and pick something more 'normal', I'd go for James. It's the name of three of my really really really good friends, and it's always held nothing but positive connotations for me - basically I've never met a James I've been disappointed with.

I know a number of people in Indonesia whose names I might steal for use on any future sprogs of mine - but I wouldn't like the constant mispronunciation of them.

If I have a daughter someday, I want her middle name to be Angelina after my grandma. My husband doesn't like the name though (his middle name is Angelo and he doesn't like it), so I don't think we'll use it, but I think it'd be nice.

Of course!
My mom gave me her name as a middle name, and I always loved that she did that and we share the same name. (Paige.) If I have a daughter I would want to include that in her name as well.
Also, if we have more than one child I want to use the name(s): Finch or Atticus after my mom, Nicholas for my Dad's side, Jane for my grandmother, and Matthew or Mathilde after my fiance/child's father. :)

If you are close to the family member, I always thought family names were a lovely tradition. I loved sharing a family name growing up!

I'm using Russell, if I'm having a boy, as a middle name after my grandfather who just passed away in July. I can't find any first names that I like though.

I'm seriously thinking of using Lacey for a girl. My Grandfather's middle name was Lacey but no one knew until after he died. I think it's really great though. Also Robert for a boy, after a favorite cousin of mine who died from leukemia.

The only name that I have set in stone and will fight to the death for it to be my son's middle name is Manning. I am hoping and praying I find a man who will allow me to use the name and hopefully does not associate the name to Peyton Manning, which is NOT AT ALL who I am naming my son after. I hate football almost more than anything. Anyway, Manning will be for the psychologist who worked at my elementary school. She helped me SOOO much when I was little (helping me to start talking and all). I still keep in touch with her 12 years later.

Sailor Uranus FTW!

Ahem. Anyway. I've always been close to my mom and her sister, so I'd name a daughter Anna Kate after them both (my aunt's first name is a variation of Anna, but she goes by her middle name, and my mom's first name is a variation of Kate).

Aside from the family middle name (Maree) the only one is really Victoria, which is my favorite girls name, and the name of my great-grandmother, who I absolutely adore. However, I'm not sure if it counts, because to me she was always just "great-grandma" and when I realized how much I loved the name Victoria, it took me several years to make the connection. Now that I've made it though I definitely think it will be great to tell me daughter someday "you were named after your great-great-grandmother who was made of win."

Rocco after my grandfather.

Honestly, that's it so far. I haven't really considered anyone else (although, I do have a great relationship with most of my family.)

My son's middle name is mainly after my grandfather, but its also one of my brothers' names as well as several people in my ancestory. If we have children in the future we'll probably do the same thing again.

My brothers were named after my grandfather's on both sides. My middle name comes from my mother, who was given it by my grandmother (who has no middle name!)

I fully intend on giving my children a name for a family member (ideally one from each side, plus a name that is their own - so three names total)

Some on my list:
James (my dad and brother)
Evan (for my great grandmother Evelyn)
Daniel (boyf and his father's middle name)
Kenneth (for my late grandfather, and brother)

Maree (mum's and my middle name)
Caitlin/Kate (for my cousin and friend who will prob not have any children)
Emma/Emily (see above)

I'm another one for Joseph, after almost all the men in my family, because their first names are all Joseph. I think it would be a nice way to honour them, and my heritage.

I'm also seriously considering using Ruth as a middle name if I ever have a daughter, because it's the middle name of my mother and grandmother.

I'm not really a fan of naming someone after someone else... but if I had to I'd probably consider Maree (after my best friend) or Robert after my dad, but yeah. That's about it.

Naming a child after someone in my family is something I wouldn't do.
I don't like the idea of something new being named after something dead.
And for current people in my family, I guess I just don't have anyone that inspires me enough. But I would agree to use family names on my SO's side if it mattered to him. And I most definitely would name a baby after a 'celebrity' or the likes of it :P art inspires me more than family, yeah, I've just realized that.

I just also realized that I'd probably rather name a baby after me and the dad, for example matching/blending initials, which ironically is what my parents do with me (although I'm stuck with ugly middle names after a grandma whom I've never met)

If I had had a boy, I would have named him Clifford after my paternal grandfather who incidentally passed away 7 years ago today. My grandfather never had a middle name it was just Clifford but I imagine we would have called him Clifford Darcy or Clifford Eric (Darcy Eric being my husband's Grandfather's name, who passed away about 2 weeks before my grandfather).

Caroline (my great grandfather, couldn't really do Charles/Charlie as that's the dog's name)
Liliana (my mother - her fn means lily & her mn is Ann)
Jane (best friend)
Julia/Juliet (my mentor)

Edward (my grandfather's mn)
Finnegan or Seamus (my mentor/lectuer)
Richard (my brother)

I also love William, after Shakespeare.

Elizabeth is a family middle name.
I also want to use Alec/Alex as Alec is dad's middle name, and he wanted to use on me if I'd been a boy!

My favourite English teacher, Merry (Merry Abigail)

Thanks! I really hope I have all girls because I have so many names that I love for them! Most people don't like Merry, but I read it in a book when I was 8 and have loved it ever since. The fact that my teacher is like a mother to me and I consider her to be a friend also helps!

Lily Alice
Elizabeth Jane
Merry Abigail
Catherine Emily
Madeleine Hermione

The list just goes on!

I plan on naming my first girl Claire Annabeth.

Anna after my best friend, Anna, who just had a heart transplant at age 22.

Beth after my great-grandmother, Elizabeth, who died when I was 11 months old but who I think, based on family members' descriptions of her, I think I would have had an amazing relationship with.

(Claire's just because I love the name.)
