This has been on my mind for awhile - it seems to be important to this community to have sib-sets that work well together but don't match. So what about parent/children set names? For example: If Christopher and Katherine have a baby whichsounds better: Zoe or Elizabeth? Zayden or William? (Think about length, nn options, "type" of name) Natasha, Silas and Bob wouldn't make a great sibset, but what if it was a mother, father and son? I know that many couples won't have names that make a "set" - but I bet a great deal do in one sense or another. Ok, have at it.

I think with Christopher and Katherine, Elizabeth & William would work better. They're all pretty classic sounding names, whereas Zayden is WAY trendy. Zoe could work either way, but I think Elizabeth would be a better fit.

I don't think it's a huge deal, but it does matter a little bit, I think.

i think it's different because people/parents don't choose their own names and it's not like you can change the name of your partner or whoever you decide to have kids with. but you CAN choose to give all of your children names that are classic/trendy/have similar meanings/start with the same similar.

my parents are in a mixed, cross-cultural marriage and their names probably don't seem like they'd match to most people (suzanne & omar, fwiw). but my sister & i have names that go fairly well together- zahra & safia.

interesting question!

I actually like the idea of following a pattern like that.

One of my ex boyfriends and still really close friend was talking about if we ever had children together one time.. he's Korean and I'm well.. not, lol, but he said that if we had boys we could use Korean/Asian names.. but if we had girls we could use whatever. I thought that was adorable.

Eh, I personally don't care much about 'sib-sets'. You're kids aren't going to be together forever, I'd rather name for the individual, not the supposed set. They aren't dolls :P

I guess I would discount parent-children sets because the parents didn't choose their own names, so "matching" their names with their children's doesn't really make sense to me.

I know a couple, Matthew and Micki.. and their children are Maggie, Marlee, and Matthew Jr.
I think that sounds a little crazy myself.. but I'm not totally against at least considering how parents names sound next to their childrens names.

Omg you think that's bad. My friend's family is CRAZY. Her parents are Kris and Kelly, her and her sib's names are Kelsey, Kara, Kyle, and Keeley, and then Kelsey had a daughter and named her Kayla. Talk about overkill!

I'm Caroline and my husband is Christopher. We just didn't want another "C" name in the family. Our daughters ended up being called Amy and Brianna, so now we are the ABC family (which irks me, but can't do anything about that now!)

It matters to me to have a "family set", not as much as a sibset, but still. My name is Amanda, and my husband is Sean. Neither Bob nor Gwendalin(sp?) work well with our names, as they're both popular / trendy names, that's why I think our daughter Riley's name sounds good with ours, it's the same type of name.

*our names are the popular names, sorry, when I reread that, I didn't make it clear, I think.
